Rotherham host Birmingham at the Aesseal New York Stadium (Rotherham) in the 42nd round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12 pm (UK) on Sunday, April 18. Read our reasons for Rotherham vs Birmingham prediction and betting tips.
Birmingham can all but make themselves safe from Championship relegation and push Rotherham United closer to the trap door if they get three points in a massive Sunday lunchtime clash. The Millers' defeat at home to Coventry was a crushing disappointment to manager Paul Warne who admitted after the game he had no complaints about the outcome. Rotherham are now six points better off than Birmingham who beat Stoke 2-0 last time out, although the Blues have played two games more.
On a night when the hosts could have swapped places with the Sky Blues and moved out of the bottom three in the Championship, it was the visitors who secured a huge psychological victory in the context of their season thanks to a goal 20 minutes from time from defender Leo Ostigard. Playing their second game in 48 hours after Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over QPR, the Millers produced a jaded performance in their third match in six days.
Rotherham's busy schedule appears to be catching up with them. They looked tired and lethargic against Coventry and were fortunate to only lose 1-0. A strength-sapping schedule of four matches in nine days, in a spell which Warne has labelled as ‘the Week of Death’, ends when the Millers welcome another side in the relegation picture, Birmingham, on Sunday. Unfortunately, Rotherham's New York Stadium is far from a fortress too – they have the worst home record in the league with five wins out of 20 and have won only one game there since the start of February.
Meanwhile, the midweek result in Yorkshire capped a good week for Birmingham who have been encouraged they can beat the drop with an impressive mini-run which has seen them go four games without a defeat. A tough batch of three fixtures against Swansea, Brentford and Stoke has seen them win two of them and draw the other and crucially, they didn't concede a goal in that spell. It will give them massive confidence for their trip to the New York Stadium as Rotherham prepare for their fourth match in nine days.
Blues have been in excellent form since Bowyer’s arrival in March and a win on Sunday would create a nine-point gap on the Millers. Since Lee Bowyer took the reins Blues have been in top-six form having taken ten points from his first three games in charge. From being odds on relegation fodder five games ago and facing four top teams, the odds have drifted in Blues favour to avoid relegation and while Rotherham still have games in hand, the fact Birmingham have fifteen points to play for, yet only needing six or seven to survive, will ease the nerves.

Rotherham meet Birmingham having previously won one of their last 16 league games against the Blues (D7, L8), a 2-0 away win in September 2015. Moreover, Birmingham are unbeaten in seven away league games against Rotherham (W2, D5) since a 5-1 defeat in October 1989 in the old Third Division.
The sides battled out a 1-1 draw in September in Birmingham with two penalties converted by Jeremy Bela and Kieran Sadlier, but we can see the visitors claiming the three points at the Aesseal Stadium as the host look knackered.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
