Rotherham
host Cardiff at the Aesseal New York Stadium (Rotherham) in the postponed 23rd
round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday,
February 9.
Rotherham come into this match on the back of two championship wins – against Derby (3-0) and away at Preston (2-1) 1-3. After going only one defeat in their last six matches (W4, D1), the Millers have escaped the drop zone, but are still lingering dangerously close in 20th place, only a single point above the third-from-bottom Birmingham. As for Cardiff, The Bluebirds are unbeaten in theor last three second-tier fixtures (D2, W1) after six consecutive defeats in all competitions. The latest 2-0 win at Bristol on Saturday see them in 14th place, still too far away from play-off berths for their liking.
The Millers have recently increased their own chances to escape the relegation after picking up 13 points from maximum 18 in their last six games, although Paul Warne still has a job on his hands to lift the Millers well into safety zone. However, on Saturday, Rotherham kept up their amazing league form as they took a vital three points on the road against Preston for their first win in 18 years at Deepdale.
One of the quickest and unlickiest goals of the season - Joe Rafferty's unfortunate own goal after just 17 - saw the visitors take the lead, before surviving an absolute barrage on their goal by Preston for the rest of the half. But Paul Warne’s men doubled the lead in the second half and despite getting a goal back midway through the second 45, the hosts couldn’t find another goal as the Millers held for the thre points.
Cardiff, on the other hand, were without a win in more than a month (L6, D2) in all competitions after a 3-2 win against Birmingham on December 16. The current downturn in form was enough for Neil Harris to get a sack and the club named Mick McCarthy as a replacement in the dug-out for the rest of the season. Harris had left Cardiff in 15th in the Championship, closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs, but this has not been the only worrying sequence of results this season, which the Bluebirds started with a mere three wins from their opening 13 fixtures.
However, Cardiff ended their longest run without a league win in five years on Saturday, as headers from Curtis Nelson and Kieffer Moore saw them win 2-0 at Bristol. The Bluebirds crossed the Severn Bridge without a victory in seven games but were good value as Mick McCarthy earned his first three points as Cardiff boss. Cardiff were never really troubled, even though they were dealt a blow before the match as a deadline-day signing, midfielder Jonny Williams got injured in training.

Ahead of the Tuesday’s clash these two teams have both recorded six wins each in their last 19 competitive matches. The Millers have won just one of the last 10 league meetings with the Bluebirds (D4 L5), losing 5-0 in the most recent match in February 2017.
On the other hand, Cardiff have won on two of their last three league visits to Rotherham (L1), one more victory than they managed in their 21 previous such trips (D4 L16). Having said that, we must take these stats with a pinch of salt as the two teams last shared the league in 2017/18 season.
The Millers have been marginally better host than Cardiff visitors in their last five league games, but have found it hard to keep the ball out of the net with 4 games in 5 ending with both opponents scoring. The Bluebirds will look to bounce on their first win after a while, but might keep a momentum going with a new manager in the dugout.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
