Rotherham host Middlesbrough at the Aesseal New York Stadium (Rotherham) in the 43rd round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Wednesday, April 21. Read our reasons for Rotherham vs Middlesbrough prediction and betting tips.
Despite conceding fourteen fewer goals at this stage than during their last relegation campaign, Rotherham worryingly sit level on points with that 2018/19 season. However thanks to results elsewhere, they remain the masters of their own destiny despite two defeats ‘to nil’ from three games last week (W1). Meanwhile, Boro’s attention is firmly set on next season as their campaign has faded into obscurity with a five-game winless run (D1, L4) and two straight defeats - they will now look to pick up points having last lost three consecutive league games over a year ago.
Rotherham's busy schedule appears to be catching up with them after two consecutive 1-0 defeats at home against Coventry and Birmingham, two sides in the relegation picture, as well. A strength-sapping schedule of four matches in nine days, in a spell which Warne has labelled as ‘the Week of Death’, has thus ended with four points in their bag from four games. Now, still with two fewer games than all the teams around them, they play their fourth consecutive match on home turf, hoping to close the four-point gap between them and the Rams in 21st place.
Unfortunately, Rotherham's New York Stadium is far from a fortress. Tellingly, the Millers enjoyed the better of the possession and the chances against relegation rivals Birmingham at the weekend but conceded late on as they were condemned to a damaging 1-0 defeat. They have the worst home record in the league with five wins out of 20 and have won only one game there since the start of February. More worryingly, the Millers have conceded first in a league’s-high fifteen Championship home matches, whilst recovering just 5 of a possible 45 points when doing so (W1, D2, L12).
Luckily for them, their midweek’s opponents, Middlesbrough don’t look too bothered to end the season on the front foot. Neil Warnock was in no mood to skirt around his words after watching his side lose for the fourth time in five winless matches against QPR (2-1), claiming he is facing his “biggest challenge”. What had previously looked like a bit of fine tuning now looks far greater as he looks to mould a group of players capable of doing better next season.
The defeat leaves Middlesbrough 11th and in real danger of finishing in the bottom half of the table having spent so much of the season in contention for a top-six spot. The Boro manager has made it clear what he wants – and that is a united dressing room capable of eradicating the inconsistencies that have blighted the second half of this campaign. Warnock suggested he had got some answers from the performance as he is ready to mix his team up for the final four matches.

Rotherham meet Middlesbrough Middlesbrough having previously lost 11 of their last 16 home league games against Boro (D1, L4), winning most recently in May 2019. However, the Millers are looking to do a league double over Neil Warnock’s side for only the second time ever, after a comfortable 3-0 win at the Riverside Stadium in January.
In the battle of sides who have been struggling for goals for a while now, the BettingKick’s Rotherham vs Middlesbrough prediction is: Both teams to score - NO

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
