After a win in their away season opener against Wycombe Wanderers (0-1), Rotherham host Millwall on the second day in the Championship on Saturday, September 19 at the Aesseal New York Stadium (Rotherham), and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
Rotherham have been changing divisions since 2016, and they would hope for some stability at last in the Championship. It is too early to dismiss them as relegation fodder, but their squad is thin on quality, and this season will be a struggle to survive as well. However, they have now started the 20/21 season with two wins on the bounce and against Millwall in their home debut they'll want to continue that little run.
As for Millwall, manager Gary Rowett brought much needed stability to the team, while still maintaining Millwall's typical aggressiveness with pressing and getting under opponent's skin. The club finished eighth in the last three seasons, so the foundations are in place to start aiming for the top prize. However, after their bland season opener against Stoke City, the question begs if the Lions are up for it this season.
ROTHERHAM VS MILLWALL MATCH ANALYSIS
Rotherham accept that relegation battle is on their hands, but the manager Paul Warne knows how to get the most out of his group of players. Unlike other, richer clubs who have suffered financially due to the pandemic ,Rotherham haven't had a big budget in comparison to other championship sides in the first place, and the lack of expectation for this season may just played into their hands.
At the weekend Michael Ihiekwe's header in injury-time against another promoted team, Wycombe Wanderers, gave his team a win on an opening day at Adams Park. After getting knocked out in the first round of the Carabao Cup against League Two side Salford City after a penalty shoot-out, the Millers bounced back with a hard-fought victory and will brood on it until Saturday.
Against Stoke, Millwall manager Gary Rowett shuffled his squad that knocked out Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup first round last Saturday, with Murray Wallace, Matt Smith and Connor Mahoney all making way for Alex Pearce, Jed Wallace and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson in the starting eleven.
It didn't help whatsoever, as they lacked creativity and spark up front, but having in mind that they are still without midfielders Ryan Woods and Billy Mitchell, along with Mahlon Romeo and Parrott, it shouldn't have come as a surprise. One positive that could be taken from the Stoke game is that the Lions showed more urgency in the second-half after Rowett changed formation from 5-2-3 to 5-2-1-2, which may be a way to go against Rotherham.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
