Russia host Slovenia at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi in the Group H 2nd round of the UEFA World Cup qualifications and the match kicks of at 2.00 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 27th. Read our reasons for Russia vs Slovenia prediction and betting tips.
Russia will be hoping for a better result after the 5-0 Nations League loss in their previous game against Serbia. Russia has not been in good attacking form in more recent games. Their sum of goals equals just 4 vs opposition teams during their previous six matches. In those meetings, Sbornaya has also seen the number of goals against them come to 11. After successfully qualifying for Euro 2020, finishing second in Group I behind runaway leaders Belgium, Russia's UEFA Nations League campaign fell apart despite winning their opening two matches. Two draws and two defeats in their final four matches, including a 5-0 thrashing by Serbia, saw Hungary leapfrog the Russians to the summit of League B3. Russia are universally expected to make a strong start, especially with just two of their last nine competitive matches standing level at HT. A Russia manager Stanislav Cherchesov does not have any fitness concerns to speak of coming into this match with a fully injury-free squad to pick from.
Undefeated in 2020, Slovenia head into their opening fixture of World Cup qualification full of confidence after a near-perfect Nations League campaign, with Matjaz Kek's side winning four and drawing two on their way to top spot and promotion from League C Group 3 last year. Their most recent match was another anti-climactic goalless stalemate with Greece, but Slovenia marched to doubles over Kosovo and Moldova with professionalism to earn a spot in League B for the next cycle, but an appearance on the world stage has eluded them since 2010 and they will be determined to right the wrongs of previous qualification campaigns this time around. Even though Slovenia were not exactly facing world-beating teams last year, five wins from eight across all competitions is certainly cause for optimism, and Kek's defence - marshalled by Atletico Madrid number one Jan Oblak - only conceded one goal in the whole of 2020. With a fully injury-free squad ready to go, Slovenia manager Matjaž Kek doesn’t have any fitness concerns at all before this game.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
