Sampdoria is within touching distance of the top four in Serie A, while Genoa hovers above the relegation zone ahead of Sunday's Derby Della Lanterna.
Sampdoria is one of the positive surprises in Seria A. They looked like a more than decent team when they defeated Atalanta, winning 3-1 as visitors, showing a counter-attacking masterclass. Coached by Claudio Ranieri, who won a title with outsiders Leicester City in the Premier League, comparisons started in the middle of the match against one of the best sides in Italy. Samp missed Manolo Gabbiadini, but stunned Lazio 3-0 the weekend before and was eager to cause another upset.
Samp opened the scoring on the rebound when Mikkel Damsgaard sent Fabio Quagliarella down the left and he fired into the roof of the net with his left foot from a tricky angle after confusing Jose Luis Palomino with a stepover. Later, Quagliarella stepped up to score from the penalty spot but his shot was at a good height for the goalkeeper and Marco Sportiello managed to parry. In the second half, Samp decided the match with another two goals. Jakub Jankto floated a ball over the top for Thorsby’s diving header at the back post to double Samp’s lead.
Duvan Zapata converted from the spot to set up a tense final 10 minutes, but Samp struck again on the counter when Keita ran forward, distracted two defenders, and rolled across for Jakub Jankto to sweep in with the inside of his left boot from 12 yards.
Sampdoria was unbeaten in seven games in a row against Genoa before the Grifone’s win in the last derby clash played in July. Antonio Candreva is recovering from an injury and could start from the bench. Adrien Silva is in doubt while Manolo Gabbiadini will surely miss the game with a muscle injury.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Tonelli, Augello; Jankto, Thorsby, Ekdal, Damsgaard; Ramirez, Quagliarella.
Suspended:
Injured: Adrien Silva
Genoa has no more cases of Covid after Petar Brlek and Darian Males had had a negative swab test. The Grifone, however, have several players out with injuries: Eldor Shomurodov, Davide Zappacosta, Mattia Bani, Luca Pellegrini, and Stefano Sturaro who have been training separately from the rest of the team this week. Rolando Maran hopes Pellegrini and Bani will be eligible to play on Sunday.
Genoa lost the previous game, Inter won 2-0 at Marassi with Romelu Lukaku and Danilo D’Ambrosio goals. The visitors dominated possession from the start, but struggled to break Genoa down, Inter had 67 percent possession, they managed zero shots on target.
The game changed after the half time and Nicolò Barella provided momentum for Inter, as just six minutes after coming off the bench, his slide-rule pass released Romelu Lukaku, who cut inside Goldaniga to fire into the far top corner with his left foot while sliding. Inter doubled their lead from a set play, as Andrea Ranocchia flicked on the Brozovic corner for Danilo D’Ambrosio to get the final touch from a yard.
Genoa (3-5-2): Perin; Goldaniga, Zapata, Criscito; Ghiglione, Radovanovic, Badelj, Zajc, Czyzborra; Pandev, Pjaca
Suspended:
Injured: Shomurodov, Zappacosta, Sturaro, Cassata

Sampdoria is playing better football at the moment, they are creating and scoring with ease, and Genoa is still struggling with fitness levels after the coronavirus outbreak. Samp should win this game and a home win is a preferable option in this match.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
