Sampdoria welcome in-form Inter Milan to the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Wednesday.
Claudio Ranieri insisted he liked his side despite Roma beat Samp at the Stadio Olimpico through an Edin Dzeko goal. “We tried to stop their players, we were supposed to hit them on counter-attacks, sometimes we made it, sometimes not,” Ranieri told Italian media. “I liked our reaction, we took some risks, but we tried to score the equalizer, it means a lot to me. We made some mistakes, but Roma was focused and determined.” The former Chelsea and Leicester coach returned to Roma to face one of his former clubs and revealed he does not expect new signings in January. “I only had [Fabio] Quagliarella and [Antonino] La Gumina available since the beginning of the season. Manolo Gabbiadini has been injured and the same is true of Keita Baldé. They are the kind of reinforcement I expect.’’
The hosts have some injury concerns for this home game, with Manolo Gabbiadini and Alex Ferrari ruled out. Albin Ekdal will miss the game after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Roma. The duo of Keita Balde and Bartosz Bereszyński is back in contention to start the game.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Emil Audero; Maya Yoshida, Lorenzo Tonelli, Omar Colley, Tommaso Augello; Antonio Candreva, Valerio Verre, Morten Thorsby, Mikkel Damsgaard; Gaston Ramirez, Fabio Quagliarella
Inter are sweating over Romelu Lukaku’s fitness and the Belgian seems set to miss out against Sampdoria on Wednesday. The center-forward scored in his 50th Serie A appearance for Inter, who beat Crotone 6-2 on Sunday. But moments later, the 27-year-old stopped due to a muscle problem and media revealed the striker will need some time before the medical staff can assess the extent of the injury. The report claims the problem in the right thigh doesn’t seem serious, but Lukaku should sit out against Sampdoria. Inter will not risk the striker against the Blucerchiati, to avoid further damage, but aim to have him back against Roma in the weekend.
The last Inter win over newly-promoted Crotone on Sunday continued to put pressure on league leaders and local rivals Milan in Serie A. One point separates the two sides and Inter must concede fewer goals but they are looking far more dangerous than ever and it would be interesting to see if Lukaku's injury can make them suffer in the next match. Antonio Conte will be also missing Andrea Pinamonti, who is struggling with a knee problem. Alexis Sanchez and Matias Vecino have resumed full training and are in contention to at least make appearances as substitutes.
Inter Milan (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Achraf Hakimi, Arturo Vidal, Nicolo Barella, Ashley Young, Marcelo Brozović; Lautaro Martinez, Stefano Sensi

Inter have won eight games on the bounce but have only kept two clean sheets in that run, and only three in a total of this Serie A campaign. Both teams to score looks like almost a sure bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
