Roma must defend the seventh place to qualify for Europe, but Sampdoria needs 10 points to reach their season’s target. Read our reasons for Sampdoria vs Roma prediction and betting tips.
Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri prepares for ‘two beautiful and terrible matches’ in a row, starting with Roma on Sunday. The Blucerchiati face Paulo Fonseca’s Roma this weekend and the Giallorossi arrive after a 6-2 defeat to Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final. Ranieri expects a Roma that is eager to bounce back against the Ligurians this weekend but vowed his men will be ‘ready’ for the challenge. “I didn’t expect such a result,” Ranieri said at a press conference. “Too bad, because they were playing well. They put Manchester United under pressure and then it ended as it did. Now, they will want to redeem themselves, but we are ready. We want to play a great game with a lot of desire, with a lot of self-denial, because we need it and we have to be focused and determined. In my opinion, if it ended 2-1, 2-2, or 3-2, maybe they would have thought more about the second leg, as they will throw themselves into the game on Sunday. It’s normal and how we expect them to react.”
The former Roma coach has helped Sampdoria sit ninth after 33 games and wants to confirm their place in the top half during the run-in. “There’s just under a month left, we have five games, three at home and two away,” Ranieri continued. “We are close to the finish line. As I always say: that’s where you see the horses, on the final straight. I’m pushing the lads to get 52 points; we don’t want to leave anything behind. We are doing good things, but for the evaluation, I want to wait until the end of the championship.”

Roma suffered a 6-2 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday and has just three points more than Sassuolo in eight. At the moment, they would qualify for the UEFA Conference League. Leonardo Spinazzola, Jordan Veretout, and Pau Lopez picked up injuries against the Red Devils and are unavailable. Roma coach Paulo Fonseca left Trigoria with his agent, but Il Corriere Dello Sport reported he will remain in charge until the end of the season. The players have returned and were tested for coronavirus at Fulvio Bernardini ahead of the training session and preparations for the match against Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria on Sunday. They then left the sports center, but Il Corriere Dello Sport reports coach Fonseca met with Tiago Pinto and then met his agent, who accompanied him when he left Fulvio Bernardini.
The newspaper claims Fonseca doesn’t risk being sacked immediately, as rumors emerged in Italy after the heavy defeat at Old Trafford. The disappointment in the Europa League semi-final had left owner Dan Friedkin furious, but the newspaper claims Fonseca will still be the head coach until the end of the campaign. The report reveals the owners are disappointed with the results in recent weeks but will wait until the end of the season to change coach.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
