Sampdoria hosts Udinese in Serie A in the late evening kick-off on Saturday.
Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri said the decision to rest Fabio Quagliarella in the 2-1 defeat to Spezia was partly tactical. The 37-year-old, who has been linked with a surprise move back to Juventus in recent weeks, reassured the Blucerchiati fans that he will stay in Liguria. But he was not on the pitch this Monday night when M’Bamba Nzola scored the winner from the spot-kick. Quagliarella, who has scored seven goals in 15 games, entered in the second half but couldn’t help Samp bounce back against their local rivals. Ranieri defended the decision and said he must sometimes leave out the leading goalscorer.
Sampdoria has officially signed Ernesto Torregrossa from Brescia on loan with an obligation to buy. The Blucerchiati have moved to reinforce their attack and the Ligurian side announced the deal with Brescia over forward. The 28-year-old has signed a deal until June 2025 with the Blucerchiati and arrives after having contributed five goals and three assists in 12 Serie B games this term.
Claudio Ranieri will have the luxury of a nearly full-strength squad, with only long-term absentees Alex Ferrari and Manolo Gabbiadini out injured, though Jakub Jankto is suspended - young winger Mikkel Damsgaard should switch to the flank as cover. Albin Ekdal and Morten Thorsby form a solid midfield pair in Ranieri's 4-4-2, with Fabio Quagliarella set to come back into the starting XI up front alongside the mercurial Keita Balde.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Emil Audero, Maya Yoshida, Lorenzo Tonelli, Omar Colley, Tommaso Augello, Antonio Candreva, Morten Thorsby, Adrien Silva, Fabio Quagliarella, Keita Balde, Mikkel Damsgaard
Luca Gotti said Udinese didn’t deserve to lose against Napoli and believes he is not at risk of sacking. The Friulani conceded a late Tiemoue Bakayoko goal that gave visitors all three points at the Dacia Arena. “It’s heavy to lose a game in the final minutes, we didn’t deserve it,” the coach told media. “We played well in the first half, we didn’t concede many goal chances. Napoli always creates so much, against everyone. We had the right behavior. Sometimes Lady Luck doesn’t help us and it happened today too. We created several goal chances that we didn’t convert.”
Luca Gotti has been dealing with a long injury list throughout the campaign and - in addition to Mato Jajalo and Ignacio Pussetto, who are both out for the season - Udinese will be without Stefano Okaka, Fernando Forestieri, Sebastian Prodl, and Bram Nuytinck. Gerard Deulofeu is available and should start on the bench, with Roberto Pereyra and star man Rodrigo De Paul playing in support of lone striker Kevin Lasagna.
Udinese (3-5-2): Juan Musso, Rodrigo Becao, Kevin Bonifazi, Samir, Nahuel Molina, Rodrigo de Paul, Walace, Rolando Mandragora, Jens Stryger Larsen, Roberto Pereyra, Kevin Lasagna

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
