Atalanta aims to defend their second-place in Serie A, but Sassuolo is out to apply further pressure on Roma with a win at the Mapei Stadium. Read our reasons for Sassuolo vs Atalanta prediction and betting tips.
The Neroverdi have lost the last seven games against Atalanta in Serie A, but La Dea has never won eight League games on the bounce against a single opponent. Sassuolo however, has five games left to surpass Roma for seventh in Serie A and have already picked up 52 points this term, one point more than the last term. But Roberto De Zerbi seems set to continue to cope without Francesco Caputo against Gian Piero Gasperini’s men. Roberto De Zerbi explained his tactical changes against Sampdoria and admits he’s getting ‘sleepless nights’ thinking about whether he’ll stay with Sassuolo next season. This was the Neroverdi’s fourth consecutive victory. “We weren’t that pretty today, but we did get a very important and difficult victory,” De Zerbi told the media. “The win in Milan was weighing on us a little and we weren’t our usual selves, which makes it an even better victory to me. We’ve already got one more point than last season with five rounds to go. It’s not over and we want to keep pushing.”
It was decided by a Domenico Berardi bicycle kick, but De Zerbi surprised by fielding a 3-5-2 formation, to begin with, going back to his usual 4-2-3-1 with Jeremie Boga’s introduction at half-time. “Marlon was more advanced out of necessity, not the desire to do something different. If we had started like that, I wouldn’t have had any options to come off the bench and change gear,” explained the coach. “Unfortunately, Samp were pressing hard and didn’t give us time to transition from one system to another. There were still 45 minutes left and I thought we could push more for 45 minutes than the whole 90. When you have the ball against Sampdoria, that’s when you need to worry. So we moved the ball less quickly than usual because we were afraid of losing it and conceding on the counter. That’s why we were a little slow in the first half. After the break, we made some changes and went back to the classic system. We are sometimes called horizontal passers, but when we do that, it’s because we are preparing to potentially lose the ball. So when we go a bit more horizontal than usual, it’s not a waste of time, it’s to move it around. What I like about my team is that we can chop and change the players, yet they always know what they need to do and the side largely works the same way. We need everyone over 38 rounds.”

Gian Piero Gasperini wants Atalanta to ‘defend’ their position in Serie A and expects a Sassuolo on a mission. ‘It's an important game for both teams’. La Dea sits second after 33 games, two points above Napoli, Juventus, and Milan, and Gasperini said it would be a ‘great achievement’ for the Bergamaschi to stay second behind Inter. “It’s certainly a great achievement, but it’s all very ephemeral,” Gasperini told the club’s official website. “To defend this position, we must continue to play games of great depth. We’ve had a great week, but everything can change in the space of a match. “The distances are short, but it’s also true that if we don’t make mistakes, the others won’t reach us.”
Atalanta prepares for their match against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday, a team that has won four on the bounce in Serie A, including a 1-0 win over Milan on April 21. But the head-to-head record speaks in favor of the Orobici and Gasperini aims to keep it so. “Being three points behind Roma could give them a nice boost and the negative record against us could fuel them with the feeling of revenge,” Gasperini added. “But if we have this record against them, it’s because we can probably create some difficulties for them. That’s what we hope to do, even on Sunday. I expect a well-prepared team that plays football, who knows what to do. They want to achieve results, but we are in a good moment and we believe. There are many games. We must think about this game and the difficulties it can present us. It will be an important match for both teams."

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
