Revierderby should be very valuable when Schalke hosts arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
This will be the 98th Revierderby of the Bundesliga era. Schalke has won 32 to Dortmund's 35 (30 draws) and Hoppe and Haaland have been in fine goalscoring form this year. Hoppe, who only made his Schalke debut in November, has scored five goals in the Rückrunde, which has rather assuaged the disappointment of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's injury struggles since the club legend returned from Ajax in the winter transfer window. Huntelaar was joined by Sead Kolasinac and Shkodran Mustafi in a busy period off the field for the Royal Blues, but their arrivals - and Hoppe's goals - have not yet translated into sufficient points.
Christian Gross's side held hitherto high-flying Union Berlin to a goalless draw last Saturday, but they remain five points adrift of 17th-placed Mainz at the bottom of the table. Nabil Bentaleb has been restored to the first-team set-up having been frozen out earlier in the campaign. On paper, Schalke looks far too good to go down. Can they turn their season beginning with a first Revierderby win in four attempts?
Schalke: Fährmann - Becker, Mustafi, Natastic, Kolasinac (c) - Stambouli, Bentaleb - William, Serdar, Harit - Hoppe
Out: Huntelaar (calf), Ludewig (foot), Paciencia (knee), Rönnow (groin), Sane (knee), Skrzybski (knee)
Doubtful: Uth (thigh)
Coach: Christian Gross
Dortmund begin the day as favorites, but they have stuttered some since Edin Terzic replaced Lucien Favre in December, the interim coach overseeing a record seven wins, two draws, and four losses in all competitions. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Marco Rose will take the reins next season, and has said that Terzic will have an ongoing place at the club, which is something he also hopes will be true of Haaland. The Norwegian striker was given his Red Bull Salzburg debut by the inbound BVB coach and hammered home a brace in Dortmund's 3-2 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday to take his haul in that competition to 18 goals in just 13 games for his former and current employers.
Haaland might have had a hat-trick against Hoffenheim last Saturday, too, but two of his strikes were ruled out for offside and Dortmund had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Die Schwarzgelben remains sixth in the table on 33 points, but a win here is a minimum requirement as they look to stay in touch with this season's Champions League race.
Dortmund: Bürki - Meunier, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro - Bellingham, Delaney - Sancho, Reus (c), Reyna - Haaland
Out: Schmelzer (knee), Witsel (Achilles tendon)
Doubtful: Hazard (thigh), Piszczek (muscular), Zagadou (hamstring)
Coach: Edin Terzic

Haaland has scored as many Bundesliga goals in 2020/21 as the entire Schalke team (15) but the home side made progress recently. Both teams to score is the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
