Could Schalke upset the RB Leipzig on Saturday?
Schalke had a busy end to the January transfer window. Ozan Kabak departed for Liverpool, but Shkodran Mustafi joined from Arsenal as his defensive replacement. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner with Germany joined former Gunners teammate Sead Kolasinac and Huntelaar at the Veltins-Arena - that pair now in their second spells at the club. Huntelaar is yet to start with young American Matthew Hoppe having scored five goals in nine games at the point of the Royal Blues' attack, but the 37-year-old's big-game experience could prove invaluable.
Kolasinac's predecessor as club captain Omar Mascarell returned for last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen, scoring the opener, and should keep his place, especially with Suat Serdar a doubt due to illness. Schalke ended Nagelsmann's unbeaten start as Leipzig coach last season, but have lost their last two against Die Roten Bullen by an aggregate score of 9-0. The Royal Blues have shipped a league-high 49 goals across 19 games so far his season. Borussia Mönchengladbach were the last team to concede 50 or more after 20 matches, back in 2010/11 - they survived via the relegation play-offs.
Schalke: Fährmann - Becker, Thiaw, Nastasic, Kolasinac (c) - Stambouli, Mascarell - William, Uth, Harit - Hoppe
Out: Ludewig (foot), Paciencia (knee), Sane (knee), Skrzybski (knee)
Doubtful: Bozdogan (ankle), Rönnow (groin), Serdar (ill)
Coach: Christian Gross
Leipzig claimed a key win over top-four rivals Bayer Leverkusen last Saturday with Christopher Nkunku scoring the only goal of the game. Julian Nagelsmann's side has a seven-point gap to make up on league leaders Bayern Munich, whilst enjoying a three-point cushion on third-placed Wolfsburg. Although he failed to score, Nagelsmann praised Alexander Sörloth for his performance against Die Werkself, and he should keep place ahead of Yussuf Poulsen with Emil Forsberg injured, even if the big Dane scored twice in the 4-0 win over Bochum in the DFB Cup on Wednesday.
USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams is among those who could drop to the bench after their midweek exertions. Angelino scored four times across his first 10 league appearances of the season but hasn't found the net in nine since. Forsberg and Poulsen also have four and are among the 15 different players to score for Leipzig in 2020/21 - a league-high. Nagelsmann's side has hit the woodwork a league-high 13 times in 2020/21.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Klostermann, Upamecano, Orban - Mukiele, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Nkunku - Sörloth
Out: Forsberg (knee), Konate (ankle), Laimer (knee), Szoboszlai (groin)
Doubtful: Kluivert (ankle)
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
