It was a cruel start of the season for Schalke in Munchen where they conceded eight goals against Bayern and now they must show to the fans that were just a bad day against a great side when Werder comes to Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke even made a bright start to the game, giving Manuel Neuer some early work with new-man Goncalo Paciencia's effort, but Bayern showed why they are UEFA Champions League winners and also why they have won the Bundesliga eight years in a row with a clinical opening goal on their first attack. Gnabry made space for a left-foot shot which left Ralf Fährmann no chance. The Royal Blues refused to throw in the towel, but that costed them heavily. Bayern never stopped, even hit the post with Sule, and on the end youngster, Musiala opened his Bundesliga account with a veteran finish to complete a result which left Schalke fans humiliated.
Schalke needs a big performance from Amine Harit who was their second-highest scorer last season and their talisman in the early part of a campaign that looked like it might end with a top-six finish. Latter stages of the season set an alarm for a David Wagner's side who finished closer to the relegation than Europe. They finished 2019/20 in 12th, and their 8-0 defeat against Bayern didn’t help for the confidence. Schalke has not won in the league in 17 matches, scored a league-low nine goals in 18 Bundesliga matches in 2020, and failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 games and that is another league’s worst. Midfielder Suat Serdar is injured just as defender Salif Sane and a team captain Omar Mascarell. Serdar hit a team-leading seven Bundesliga goals for Schalke last season, followed by Harit's six. Schalke coach Wagner is on the third-longest winless run of any Bundesliga coach (17), after Heinz-Ludwig Schmidt (20, Tasmania Berlin) and Bernd Hoss (21 games, Blau-Weiß Berlin).
Schalke: Fährmann - Rudy, Kabak, Nastasic, Oczipka – Stambouli (c), Bentaleb - Uth, Harit, Raman - Paciencia
Doubtful: -
Out: Mascarell (match fitness), Sane (knee), Serdar (thigh)
Coach: David Wagner
Werder Bremen had also a hard time on the opening weekend, Hertha hadn’t beaten their North German opponents in the Bundesliga since December 2013 and they showed their intents when Krzysztof Piatek had the game’s first chance as his header bounced off the Bremen upright. Hertha had their moment of brilliance when Maximilian Mittelstädt handed Peter Pekarik the opening goal and on the next attack, Lukebakio latched onto Vladimir Darida’s pass and smashed a shot home at the near post.
Leonardo Bittencourt was brought for the home side and forced two saves from Schwolow in the opening five minutes, Bremen continued to press but were unable to find a breakthrough. Cunha punished them with Hertha’s third. With 20 minutes left to play, the home side gave themselves a lifeline as Selke headed home Ludwig Augustinsson’s cross, but Cordoba scored for the final 4-1 win against Bremen side that looked like a serious relegation candidate.
Bremen secured their top-flight status on the away-goals rule in their two-legged relegation play-off against Heidenheim. USA international Sargent led the line on Matchday 1 and failed to scored on their best chance of the match but they need a fresh impact from the Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong who was rewarded for some impressive performances in pre-season with his Bundesliga debut. Eighteen-year-old forward Nick Woltemade also made his debut against Hertha but Yuya Osako could lose out to Leonardo Bittencourt in attack who has scored in each of his last three Bundesliga meetings with Schalke.
Bremen: Pavlenka - Gebre Selassie, Moisander (c), Friedl, Augustinsson – Bittencourt, M. Eggestein, Klaassen, Chong - Sargent, Selke
Doubtful: Rashica (knee)
Out: Möhwald (match fitness), Toprak (calf)
Coach: Florian Kohfeldt

These teams conceded 12 goals in the first matches and they should be more careful regarding errors committed in those games. They are short on confidence and any prediction is very tough but under 2,5 could be a valuable option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
