Scotland host Faroe Islands at the Hampden Park (Glasgow) in the Group F 3rd round match of the UEFA World Cup qualifications and the game kicks of at 7.45 pm (UK) on Wednesday, March 31st. Read our reasons for Scotland vs Faroe Islands prediction and betting tips.
Two draws from two games against Austria (2-2) and Israel (1-1) represents a solid if unspectacular start for Scotland in Group F, though the first victory for Steve Clarke’s charges should be on the cards against a fairly ordinary Faroe Islands outfit on Wednesday night. Any finish higher than the last place would be seen as a successful qualification campaign for Faroe Islands in Group F, though their 3-1 reverse in Austria on Sunday was a taste of things to come as the visitors have developed a real knack for getting in on the act over the past year. Håkan Ericson’s minnows took the lead in Vienna before they were pegged back before the interval and are not to be taken lightly by the Scots.
With their annual slip-up in Israel out of the way, Scotland return to Hampden Park this week, where they drew 2-2 with group favourites Austria in their last home outing. Scotland pushed their unbeaten run in Glasgow to seven games with that tie against the Austrians, and the hosts should be able to harness home advantage to good effect again this week. Faroe Islands’ only away win in their last 19 attempts since 2016 came at Andorra’s expense, and Scotland should have too much class for the section’s lightweights.
A lack of clean sheets in the last five matches is another worry that Manager Steve Clarke has got to deal with but with a fairly good home run, they should be able to overcome the slow start. In the last seven home matches, Scotland have won four and drawn three, while they’ve failed to score in just one of the seven. Despite their slow start to the qualifiers, Scotland are unbeaten in eight World Cup qualification matches, but being four points below group leaders Denmark should push them in this game.
Meanwhile, Faroe Islands took a 19th minute lead in Austria as they eyed a shocker in this group but that lasted just 20 minutes as their hosts went on to win 3-1, leaving Faroe with the one point gained against Moldova in the opening round. For the 107th ranked nation, this will be the sixth straight match they play away from home and are without a win and a clean sheet in their last five away matches – they have managed just one win in 19 away matches. They last won at home in October 2020, in a Nations League game against Andorra (2-0).
Faroe Islands are sat fourth with a solitary point from their two games but are also only one point behind Scotland in third. Faroe Islands’ consolation strike in Austria was the ninth time in their last ten fixtures where they impacted the scoresheet – a run that includes goals in each of their last five matches on the road. Their improving output in the final third suggests they could notch against a Scotland defence that shipped three goals in their first pair of qualifiers, though any effort they do register will likely be another consolation

Scotland meet Faroe Islands having never previously lost an international against the visitors, winning seven and drawing two of nine previous meetings and winning all five of their home matches against the Faroe Islanders, most recently a 3-0 friendly win in November 2010.
Scotland have lost just two of their last 18 competitive home games (W10, D6), losing consecutively against Russia and Belgium in September 2019, but should be too strong against the Faroese, who have lost 11 of their last 13 World Cup/EURO qualifying matches (W1, D1), shipping at least four goals in five of those defeats.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
