The start of the second edition of the UEFA Nations League will be interesting for Scotland and Israel who meet at the Hampden Park in Glasgow on Friday.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic first edition of the UEFA Nations League is not yet finished and the start of the second edition will be even stranger for Scotland and Israel. These national teams went through their group in tier C like a first and second-placed team in the 2018/2019 UEFA Nations League and will fight in the playoffs for EURO 2020 again in October. That means that one of Norway, Serbia, Scotland, or Israel will earn their place at the tournament courtesy of winning through the play-off system, entering into Group D against competition favorites England, World Cup finalists Croatia and the Czech Republic.
They already faced each other and Scotland was able to win 2-1 at home, but in Israel lost 3-2. The fact that they played against next rivals two games in recent time and that they will again match up in such an important game in a month can make of this game just a meaningless friendly but both coaches and players must find the motivation and start the new campaign on a high mark. Both games in the group stages were close and maybe the most important feeling they can get is that positive thought that someone is beatable.
Scotland is the favorite and has the advantage of playing at home, but their EURO qualifiers were not so good with just five wins and five losses in a group where Belgium and Russia were above them in the standings and Kazakhstan, Cyprus, and San Marino below.
Alex McLeish lost his job as national coach and Steve Clarke took over after a bad start but they lost comfortably all games vs Belgium and Russia and show they are far from the best European teams. After nine months break, Clarke selected a team that will also take a trip to the Czech Republic with the two new faces among the 24-man squad calls for QPR striker Lyndon Dykes and Livingston goalkeeper Robby McCrorie. Kieran Tierney from Arsenal returns to the team, with elite Premier League defenders Andrew Robertson and Liam Cooper. There is a Rangers duo John McLaughlin and Ryan Jack, Motherwell defenders Stephen O’Donnell and Declan Gallagher, and Celtic’s Ryan Christie, Callum McGregor, James Forrest, and Greg Taylor all keep their place. Stuart Armstrong, John Fleck, John McGinn, Kenny McLean, and Scott McTominay are good midfield options and forwards Oliver Burke, Oliver McBurnie, and Lawrence Shankland will try to be dangerous in front of the goal.
Israel will have some trouble to field the best eleven for the next game but their main star Eran Zahavi has been released by Guangzhou R&F for games vs Scotland and Slovakia fueling the speculation that he played his last game for the club and will move to Fenerbahce in Turkey. Unlike him, Dia Saba was not released by the same club for the pair of matches. Israel, first of all, had a bad campaign in Nations League, but with two wins against Scotland and Albania got themselves playoff place.
They also didn't encourage their fans in EURO qualifiers with just eleven points in a group that wasn't as tough as standings look. They did beat Austria but they lost four of their five away games and fifth place in a six-team group with just 11 points in 10 games is a bad result. Israel has never been able to qualify for a finals tournament since they've been part of UEFA and they are very focused on the playoffs in October but their attacking options are reliable and could be a challenge for rivals on any given night.
Zahavi is a proven goalscorer and his time in China gave him more confidence than ever and in pair with skillful Moanes Dabour from Hoffenheim, they will be a high threat for Scotland's goal. Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton from Celtic will give them additional info about playing at Hampden Park and crucial midfielder Bibras Natxo from Partizan have the experience to lead the team in any circumstances after playing in Rubin, PAOK, and Olympiacos and with 66 games in the national jersey.
A big surprise could be new Valladolid striker Shon Weissman who was a big wish of their part-owner ''original'' Ronaldo, one of the greatest forwards of all time. He just transferred to Spain after a great season in Austria where he played for Wolfsberger and scored 31 goals in 30 games.

Scotland and Israel will try to exploit all there options in this game and find out more about themselves after a long break so betting options like over 2,5 goals and both teams to score look reasonable. It could be very interesting math with a lot of goals regarding the firepower od Israel attack and offensive Scotland full-backs, Robertson and Tierney.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
