After managing the biggest surprise of the first round in the UCL and win in Madrid, Shakhtar has the opportunity to defeat another favorite when Inter visits Oblasny SportKomplex Metalist in Kharkiv.
The Ukrainians will be looking for revenge after Inter knocked them out at the penultimate step before the final in last season’s Europa League. Just over two months ago Internazionale heavily punished Shakhtar Donetsk with five goals and the two sides can continue their rivalry in the UEFA Champions League. Shakhtar had a great start to their campaign in this group, with a shock 3-2 away win at Real Madrid despite missing ten players and probably a minimum of six starters due to Covid-19.
They went to the half time leading 3-0 with some brilliant counterattacking tactics and though they were pushed back in the second half, it is hard to criticize their tactics after the final score. After that trip to Madrid, they had issues with fatigue and motivation, they struggled in the domestic league, as they had to come from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Vorskla, who even had a man sent off after 53 minutes. Inter needed a 90th-minute goal from Romelu Lukaku to secure a point from their game against Borussia Monchengladbach. In an action-packed second half, Lautaro Martinez replaced Alexis Sanchez for the restart. It made an immediate impact, as they scored just four minutes later. Lautaro’s header was going wide, but Danilo D’Ambrosio knocked it back from the by-line and Darmian prodded the ball on for Lukaku to fire in from close range. Gladbach received a penalty when Arturo Vidal tripped Marcus Thuram and Champions League debutant Ramy Bensebaini buried it into the bottom corner to equalize. Gladbach pounced on a defensive error to take the lead for the first time on 84 minutes, as Vidal completely failed to cut out the Neuhaus slide-rule pass, sending Jonas Hofmann clear to nutmeg on-rushing Handanovic. After an Aleksandar Kolarov corner, at the final moments of the regular time, Alessandro Bastoni flicked it on for Lukaku to bundle over the line at the back post for the 2-2 draw.
Inter went on a three-game winless run, including a loss to Milan in the derby but they recovered on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Genoa, which came with their first clean sheet of the season. The Nerazzurri struggled to break Genoa down at Marassi, until Romelu Lukaku battered through their defenses, with D’Ambrosio nodding in to seal a 2-0 result.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious.
