Sheffield Utd host Arsenal at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the 31st round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Sunday, April 11. Read our reasons for Sheffield Utd vs Arsenal prediction and betting tips.
Sheffield Utd have long lost a chance to salvage something from a miserable season, in which they have languished at the bottom of the league. Paul Heckingbottom has not managed to inspire a change in fortunes since being put in charge until the end of the season as they sit 15 points from safety with only eight league games remaining. Meanwhile, at Arsenal, a 3-0 home defeat to last season’s runaway champions Liverpool might have been viewed by fans as a signal as to how far behind the top teams we have fallen. The Gunners are currently 10th in the Premier League as their run since winning a title stretches to 17 years.
Three games, with the Chelsea and Leeds defeats all following a similar theme to the ones from before his arrival, has left the under 23 coach under no illusion about his main challenge. United have been uncharacteristically poor with the ball this season and have made life hard for themselves, winning only four times in the league. A constant turnover of possession and the gifting of cheap goals has been the source of the Blades' downfall, and Heckingbottom believes fragile confidence is to blame for that lack of quality.
The Blades have also scored the fewest number of goals in the Premier League with 17 in 30 games. Defeat at Leeds was their 25th defeat of the campaign in all competitions - 11 more than they suffered last season and would be happy if the season ended now. However, despite the fact that Sheffield Utd are doomed to relegation, they may see Arsenal’s visit to Bramall Lane as their best chance to claim a notable scalp before going down.
As for Arsenal, they went into the international break buoyed by a derby win over Tottenham and coming from 3-0 down to draw at West Ham. However, there was little for Arteta to enthuse over as Liverpool coasted to a 3-0 triumph at Emirates Stadium last weekend. The Gunners were on the back foot throughout and sorely missed the likes of David Luiz, Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka and Emile Smith Rowe – all out through a mixture of illness and injury.
With that result leaving his team 10th in the table, Arteta could be forgiven for now putting even more focus on getting past Slavia Prague to reach the Europa League semis. As for their fans, there are only two things Arsenal need to concern themselves with now and that’s the fact they have lost almost half their league games this season and that there really cannot be any excuse for not achieving a top-seven finish with this Arsenal squad and the resources.

Sheffield Utd meet Arsenal previously unbeaten in all four home Premier League matches against the Gunners (W2 D2), winning their last two 1-0 in 2006-07 and 2019-20. The Blades took four points off the Gunners last term and gave them a good test in a narrow 2-1 loss at Emirates earlier this season.
The Blades have scored only twice in their last five matches, but Arsenal have also failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last nine Premier League games. Plus they are hurting at the back.
