Sheffield Utd host Burnley at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the final 38th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 23. Read our reasons for Sheffield Utd vs Burnley prediction and betting tips.
Sheffield Utd will finish bottom of the Premier League regardless of the results on Sunday. They have lost 29 of 37 matches thus far. The Blades failed to secure the Premier League survival, but their displays in the season finale have been anything but poor. The rock-bottom side aim to give fans something to cheer about, with teenage striker prodigy Daniel Jebbison expected to continue to lead the line for the hosts. Meanwhile, Burnley are one place above the bottom three but safety is already secured. They would at least like to move up a few places but would require other results going their way. This is unlikely to be a classic but Sean Dyche would be bitterly disappointed if they don't pick up three points.
Sheffield Utd end the most wretched of seasons when Burnley visit Bramall Lane looking to avoid creating another unwanted record. The Blades' midweek defeat at Newcastle was their 29th Premier League defeat of the season which equalled the record and a win for Sean Dyche's side will make them officially the worst side in terms of wins in Premier League history. It was also almost certainly be Paul Heckingbottom's last game in charge as the caretaker boss is set to hand over the reins to whoever takes charge in South Yorkshire.
It’s now two wins in their last five matches after beating Brighton and Everton by the same 1-0 score-line. With Burnley coming up in their final game, there is a chance to pick up more points, which could provide exactly the morale boost needed ahead of a return to the second tier of English football. It’s been a sorry season overall, with Chris Wilder also leaving Bramall Lane. Yet with a new manager set to be appointed imminently, finally there is something positive to hold onto for the Blades fans.
As for Burnley, the Clarets were very unfortunate to lose 3-0 to Liverpool at Turf Moor and had plenty of the ball, which is unusual against the deposed champions. Liverpool had three shots on target and were utterly clinical, with Burnley guilty of missing chances. They will want to avoid finishing one place above the relegation zone where they sit at present and will have to win at Sheffield and hope Arsenal defeat Brighton.
However, despite the pressure being off, this is unlikely to be a thriller. Sheffield Utd have managed a paltry 19 league goals all season and Burnley are the third lowest scorers in the league too. Finishing 19 points ahead of the doomed hosts would tend to confirm Burnley are clearly the better team and they've won six of their 18 away games this season, including at big guns Liverpool and Arsenal, as well as Everton and Wolves. Burnley also need a win to avoid matching their lowest points tally since returning to the Premier League in 2016.
