SHEFFIELD UTD VS LEICESTER MATCH ANALYSIS
The Blades have had a nightmarish start, which is a worrying situation for the Blades, as they continue their ten-game winless streak. After getting their only point in the league so far against Fulham at home (1-1) in the 5th week, they continued their losing streak in the next five matches. After losing to fellows relegation candidates West Brom (1-0) last weekend, they are rooted to the bottom of the table, being the only top-flight side without a league win so far. As for Leicester, the Foxes have been in impressive form recently, having been on a six-game winning run in all competitions. They were top of the league briefly, and have won three PL games on the trot before suffering back-to-back defeats against Liverpool (3-0) at Anfield and, more surprisingly, against Fulham at home (1-2) last weekend. Those two defeats pushed Leicester down the standings to 4th with 18 points so far.
Sheffield Utd have had the worst start in the league under Chris Wilder. They picked up thirteen points from their opening ten games last season, but they have already shipped twice as many goals in 2020-21 as they had at this stage last year and have only scored four times. It means that no side has scored fewer than them so far. It will be awfully hard to repeat the last year's campaign and more realistically, the number one objective for 2020/21 will be to ensure they stay up.
In their most recent match against West Brom, Sheffield United looked to get their first win of the season but a mixture of fine goalkeeping by Sam Johnstone and poor finishing means they remain bottom of the table with just one point. The visitors threw players forward in the closing stages in a desperate attempt to rescue a point but it was clear it was not going to be the Blades' night. The Blades are now 13 games without a win in the Premier League and need to find a victory soon before their situation becomes too difficult to recover from.
Leicester, on the other hand, are without a win in their last four games in all competitions (D1-L3) after winning six games on the trot. Brendan Rodgers' side could have gone top of the Premier League with a victory at Anfield a fortnight ago, which is a testimony to their fine start to the season, but instead, the Foxes headed out of Anfield soundly beaten by the reigning champions. They followed it with a draw at Braga (3-3) and a defeat to Zorya Luhansk (1-0) in the Europa League, and a shocking defeat to Fulham at the King Power Stadium.
Last weekend, Ivan Cavaleiro's penalty helped Fulham climb out of the Premier League relegation places, while Leicester missed the chance to go level on points with leaders Tottenham. The Foxes endured another frustrating night in attack until substitute Harvey Barnes' late reply ensured a nervy finale, but the Cottagers held on for three points. To put salt to a wound, Leicester's hopes of sealing the top spot in Europa League Group G with a game to spare were dashed by losing to Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk, later in midweek, and in Sheffield Utd, they have a perfect opportunity to bounce back.
