Sheffield Utd host Liverpool at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the 26th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 7.15 pm (UK) on Sunday, February 28. Read our reasons for Sheffield Utd vs Liverpool prediction and betting tips.
Sheffield are as good as relegated after suffering three consecutive league defeats since a run of three wins in five games provided a glimmer of hope. Last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Fulham summed up their season, and after picking up just 11 points in 25 games, the Blades are 14 from safety, which feels like they are now chasing mission impossible, rather than a great escape. As for Liverpool, the Reds seek recovery from their first home Merseyside derby defeat in 22 years (2-0) and a first sequence of four consecutive home league defeats since 1923. With their title defence in tatters and the club’s third-worst goals conceded average (1.36 per fixture) after 25 games in PL history, they’ve work to do to stay in the hunt for a Champions League place.
Sheffield Utd (9) have remarkably picked up more points than Liverpool (7) in the Premier League in 2021, but that won’t matter much coming into this match. Chris Wilder’s side appear relegation-bound following their defeat to fellow Premier League strugglers Fulham last Saturday, which left them cut adrift at the bottom of the table. Scoring a meagre average of 0.60 goals per PL game, and with a league-low one clean sheet, it’s unsurprising that they’re in such a desperate position.
However, United won’t go down without a fight, though, and can take heart from having given Liverpool a couple of tough work-outs over the past 17 months. They only went down by one goal here the last term and led for a while before being beaten 2-1 at Anfield in October. The Blades have netted in six straight home games in all competitions and should be fired up for facing the Reds’ injury-ravaged defence.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have lost all four of this month’s Premier League games after being beaten at Anfield by neighbours Everton for the first time since 1999. An early Richarlison strike and Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late penalty ensured the Reds are on their worst domestic run since 2002. However, Jurgen Klopp remains adamant that it is not all doom and gloom, with a 2-0 Champions League triumph over RB Leipzig supporting his view.
In all honesty, the Reds were dominant in most of the games they lost, with mistakes happening in decisive moments proving too costly. In the last 11 matches, there have been just two clean sheets, with Jordan Henderson becoming the fifth centre-back option ruled out by injury he picked up against Everton. On the bright side, though, Mohamed Salah is still the PL’s leading scorer with 17 and his 24 in all competitions is one more than

Sheffield United and Liverpool are two of the biggest disappointments in this term of the Premier League. The Blades almost secured a place in European competitions last season, while the Reds won the title in a superior fashion.
Chris Wilder’s men will most likely be dropped to the Championship football after this campaign, while Jurgen Klopp’s troops have already lost all hopes of defending the title.
The two outfits have suffered losses in the previous round as well and they will both come into Sunday’s clash at Bramall Lane in the lowest of spirits.
The reigning champions are favourites, nevertheless, so BettingKick’s Sheffield Utd vs Liverpool prediction is: Liverpool win
