Sheffield Utd host Newcastle at Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the 18th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Tuesday, January 12.
SHEFFIELD UTD VS NEWCASTLE MATCH ANALYSIS
The hosts come into this match on the back of the three defeats against Everton, Burnley, and Crystal Palace where they failed to find the back of the net as well. They have now picked up only two points in the league and are rooted to the foot of the table and still waiting on their first Premier League win. As for the Magpies, they are without a win in six (D2, L4) and are 15th in the standings, big 8 points from the bottom-three. Last time out they lost at home to Leicester (1-2) and Steve Bruce will probably opt for a more adventurous approach against the Blades in order to end the barren run.
The latest defeat puts Sheffield Utd one step closer to relegation, with the Yorkshire outfit being cut further adrift by the week. A gutsy draw against Liverpool has eased that pressure a bit, but they remained on the losing course in their latest home game and have a tough third-round FA Cup tie against reinvigorated Arsenal which will be equally important for their floundering season.
In their most recent league defeat, fine first-time finishes from James Maddison and Youri Tielemans helped Leicester beat the Magpies. Carroll stroked home to put some gloss on the scoreline for Newcastle - his first goal for the club since rejoining Newcastle in August 2019 - but the hosts saw their winless league run extended to five games. That was Newcastle's first goal in four games and the absence of Allan Saint-Maximin to Covid continues to have an impact on the service to an isolated Callum Wilson up front.

Blades are sinking fast and, to make things worse, after recording a number of positive coronavirus cases during the latest round of testing, United were also without several players because of injury and suspension. In fact, they were so depleted they could only name six substitutes instead of the usual nine.
