Sheffield Utd host Southampton at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the 27th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 6. Read our reasons for Sheffield Utd vs Southampton prediction and betting tips.
Sheffield Utd look doomed to falling into the Championship but, to be fair, they are refusing to go down without a fight. Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat of Aston Villa at this venue was the fourth win in 10 league outings, plus they are also through to the cup quarter-finals. However, relegation is all but confirmed with Chris Wilder's side 12 points adrift with 33 left to play for. On the other hand, Southampton have picked up just one point in nine league games following Monday’s 1-0 loss at Everton. The Saints have struggled to pick up points during a tough run of fixtures but they could have a big performance in them at Sheffield. Saints have tumbled down the table into 14th and this is a chance to erase any fears of being dragged into a relegation battle.
Sheffield are as good as relegated after suffering four consecutive league defeats and a single victory since a run of three wins in five games provided a glimmer of hope earlier on. After picking up just 14 points in 26 games, the Blades are now chasing mission impossible, rather than a great escape. Scoring a meagre average of 0.60 goals per PL game, and with a league-low two clean sheets, it’s unsurprising that they’re in such a desperate position. The Blades will now have to produce an unprecedented recovery if they are to remain in the top-flight this season.
Chris Wilder’s men have been rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table since November but have started to perk up of late, winning two of their last six – including a midweek win over Aston Villa. The Blades showed there is fight left in them yet after battling with 10 men for more than half an hour to win against Aston Villa in midweek, but it would still take a brave person to bet against Chris Wilder’s side being relegated, with a 12-point chasm left to bridge in the remaining 11 matches.
As for Southampton, the new year was looking bright for the Saints when they started with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, ending a four-game winless run that had seen them drop down the table. However, since then the wheels have well and truly fallen off in the Premier League. After climbing to the top of the league table in November, Southampton have dropped down to 14th, getting only a point from the possible 27 in the last nine games. They have won just once in the PL since mid-December and are on a poor run of five consecutive away losses.
The Saints have won their last three fixtures against the Blades and should have fond memories of their last visit to the S2 area, as Moussa Djenepo scored one of the solo goals of the season to settle the game 1-0. Danny Ings and Charlie Adams are expected to lead the attacking line for the Saints. The pressure is on these star strikers to put in a performance after misfiring attacks have cost them valuable points across the season. Jamie Ward-Prowse remains a key player and is expected to play a leading role in this fixture.

Sheffield Utd meet Southampton having previously lost two of their last three home league games against Southampton, more than they had in their previous 15 at Bramall Lane (W11 D3 L1).
As they say, the next game is always the most important, but in terms of building momentum and keeping the feel-good factor going after the battling win against Villa, another three points against the Saints is vital.
Meanwhile, Southampton have lost eight of their last nine league games and are there for the taking. The Blades have not recorded back-to-back Premier League victories yet this season and Saturday would be the perfect time to start.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
