Sheffield Utd host Tottenham at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the 19th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 2.05 pm (UK) on Sunday, January 17.
SHEFFIELD UTD VS TOTTENHAM MATCH ANALYSIS
The host come into this match on the back of the two wins - against League One side Bristol Rovers (2-3) in the Round 3 of the Fa Cup on January 9 and first win in the league against Newcastle (1-0) in midweek. It took eighteen weeks in the league for the Blades to pick up their first three points, but they are still rooted to the foot of the table, nine points from safety. As for the Spurs, they are without a defeat in six (W4, D2) in all competitions and are 7th in the standings, 6 points from the leaders Man Utd. Last time out they drew at home with Fulham (1-1) but they also progressed to the finals of the League Cup and reached the 4th round of the FA Cup to boot.
The latest win gives Sheffield Utd slim hopes that they can avoid relegation, with the Yorkshire outfit being cut further adrift in the recent weeks. The Blades do not lack effort or commitment but, yet again, that has not been enough for them. They don't seem to be able to hurt teams and Chris Wilder admitted himself that his team need an "incredible run" to avoid relegation after their awful start to the season.
After 186 frustrating days, Sheffield United finally got to experience a winning feeling that had not just deserted them but appeared to have packed up and left the country. Billy Sharp's second-half penalty was enough to secure all three points against Newcastle on Tuesday night and give the Premier League's bottom side the faintest glimmer of hope that they can stave off a relegation they seemed to be heading towards in record time.
On the other hand, the problem for Spurs fans and Mourinho over recent weeks has been that you are never quite sure exactly what to expect from this Tottenham team. There is the side that is ruthless, relentless, and clinical and there is the one that stuttered while conceding late goals that cost them points. However, one constant is a deadly partnership of Kane and Son, who have now combined for 13 top-flight goals this term, to equal the record set by Blackburn's Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton in 1994-95.
Against Fulham, they failed to kill the game yet again and Ivan Cavaleiro scored a late header to earn Premier League strugglers Fulham a hard-fought draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their hastily rearranged London derby. For all the complications surrounding the fixture, the intensity from two sides at opposite ends of the table was high, but Spurs missed the chance to move up to third in the table. They do have a chance, however, to put things right against the bottom-fodder Sheffield Utd.

Surprisingly, Sheffield Utd have lost just two of their last 11 top-flight matches against Spurs (W5 D4), avoiding defeat in both matches last season (W1, D1). they will be encouraged by the fact that they have won consecutive games in all competitions, after going 21 matches without a win beforehand (D3, L18). However, they haven’t won back-to-back games in the league since July 2020.
Spurs are winless in their last seven away league matches at Bramall Lane (D3 L4) since a 2-1 win in December 1975, but more alarmingly, after scoring 13 goals and winning their first four away league games this season, Spurs are winless in their last four on the road (D3 L1), netting just three goals in that run. However, with the prolific pair of Kane and Son who have now scored 23 of Tottenham's 30 league goals this term, the Spurs should be too much for the hosts.
