Sheffield Wed host Wycombe at the Hillsborough (Sheffield) in the postponed 25th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7 pm (UK) on Tuesday, February 9.
After losing for on the trot in the league in the first half of December, Sheffield Wed have now lost only their second game since (W5, D2). They lost comfortably at Milwall (4-1) after beating Preston (1-0) and Bournemouth away (2-1), but the good run they are on is still not enough to pull them to safety as they remain second-bottom in the Championship table. The only team below them in the standings, Wycombe, are paying visit on Tuesday in a six-pointer at the foot of the table. Wycombe has scraped only three wins in the second-tier in this campaign (D7, L16) and are huge twelve points away from safety. A 3-0 home defeat to struggling Nottingham Forest leaves them with 16 points, nine behind their hosts, and getting anything from Sheffield will be huge.
41 days without a permanent manager. Fans clamouring for the owner to clear out and leave. Things are definitely not good at Sheffield Wed. In fairness, caretaker manager Neil Thompson has arrested the slide that the Owls were on. Last time out a late winner from Jordan Rhodes saw them beat top-six side Bournemouth. It was a result that saw the Owls win their fourth game on the spin at Hillsborough.
However, they are still reliant on results going their way from teams above them and are still three points and goal difference from safety. It’s not all about on-the-pitch action though, many highlight that Wednesday’s problems are off the pitch and behind boardroom doors. Saturday’s match at the Den left the fans frustrated, while the absence of Massimo Luongo, who was not involved at Millwall after he tweaked his thigh in training, which will add salt to the wounds.
Wycombe, on the other hand, fell to their 16th league defeat of the season in their 26th Championship match, after they lost to Forest at Adams Park on Saturday. Two goals from Glenn Murray, which were his first goals for the club, and a thunderous effort from Anthony Knockaert, sunk the Chairboys to another loss in their debut season in England’s second-tier.
In a match in which Wycombe looked second best, the home side did have chances but nothing of great note that tested Forest keeper Brice Samba. And, while boss Gareth Ainsworth remains upbeat, he has stated the importance of what the next month will bring for Wanderers and admited that his side ‘need a run of wins’ to stay in the Championship.

Prior to Wycombe 1-0 win in the reverse fixture on October 31, these two teams last shared a league on two occasions - in seasons 2003/2004 and 2011/12. They met five times overall, with the Owls winning three matches to Wycombe’s one.
Nine hole points separates the hosts and the visitors at the bottom and one look at the table shows what team has a momentum on his side. The hosts are undefeated in last five matches at home, winning four in the process (D1), while the Chairboys are on a downward spiral, losing four and picking up only a solitary point on their last five travels.
Notwithstanding the off the pitch shenenigans at Sheffield, they should have enough fire in their bellies to sink the Chairboys on Tuesday night.
