Southampton host Chelsea at the St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the 25th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 20. Read our reasons for Southampton vs Chelsea prediction and betting tips.
Southampton continue to struggle and a 2-1 loss to Wolves last time out means they have now lost their last six league matches. A run of one win in 11 leaves Saints in the bottom half of the table in 13th. Conversely, Chelsea continue to impress under Thomas Tuchel and a 2-0 win over Newcastle means the Blues have won their last four in the Premier League to lift them up into the top four. Chelsea have a fine record at St. Mary's, too, having won their last five visits to the south coast.
The new year was looking bright for Southampton when they started with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, ending a four-game winless run that had seen them drop down the table. However, since then the wheels have well and truly fallen off in the Premier League. Saints have lost their past six league games, and have only found solace in the FA Cup, beating Shrewsbury Town, Arsenal, and Wolves en route to the sixth round.
Against Wolves on Sunday, Southampton looked on course to earn their first league points since swatting Liverpool aside here last month. Since then they have suffered a 9-0 humiliation at Old Trafford and the indignation of failing to find a way past nine-man Newcastle. It must be noted that injuries and suspensions have decimated the Saints’ squad, but they have been, nevertheless, conceding goals far too easily.
Meanwhile, since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, the Blues have won six and drawn one of their fixtures, conceding just the solitary goal in their outing at Sheffield Utd on February 7. The new manager appointment is paying dividends for the capital side as he has succeeded in his immediate task to improve the position of a club that is now 4th in the Premier League after spending more than £220m in summer.
Since a dismal 0-0 draw against Wolves in his first game in charge, Tuchel has led Chelsea to four straight league wins and reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. While Chelsea may not be as exciting to watch as they were under Lampard, they are certainly more efficient at both ends of the field. They have conceded just once in five games in all competitions, and Tuchel is beginning to get the best out of Werner and Havertz.

Southampton meet Chelsea after losing their last five home league games against the Blues, their longest losing run against a specific opponent in their league history. Chelsea’s overall record is also excellent with 12 wins to Southampton’s 3 in their last 20 matches.
The Saints are not in danger of getting sucked into a relegation dogfight, but if they have any ambition of playing in the Europa League next season, then they have to start winning matches. On the other hand, Chelsea are just 4 points behind Leicester in 3rd and Man United in 2nd and could tighten their grip on the top-four place with a win against the Saints.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
