Southampton host Crystal Palace at the St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the rescheduled 32nd round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8.15 pm (UK) on Tuesday, May 11. Read our reasons for Southampton vs Crystal Palace prediction and betting tips.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Thiago ensured Liverpool sealed a 2-0 victory over Saints at Anfield on Saturday night. Defeat extended the Saints’ miserable form since the turn of the year and left them 16th in the Premier League table with four games of their season remaining. Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson was very pleased that his side secured their ninth consecutive season in the top-flight, thanks to a convincing 2-0 win over Sheffield Utd on Saturday. Goals from Christian Benteke and a superb solo effort from Eberechi Eze helped the Eagles over the line, mathematically preserving their top-flight status.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl believes his side did everything they could to take points away from their trip to Anfield, falling to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool. Saints were looking to do the double over the Reds at kick-off having already beaten them once this season - but instead failed to capitalise on a number of golden opportunities. Southampton are still not safe from relegation but their Premier League status could be secured when West Brom and Fulham play their matches later this weekend.
Just two league wins since January 4 when the Saints beat Liverpool in the reverse fixture have left them looking over their shoulder and this latest defeat illustrated the main area in which they are lacking. In the continued absence of top-scorer Danny Ings, they struggled to find a finishing touch. While they hope the England striker returns before the end of the season, he is likely to have plenty of suitors in the summer. Even if Saints can hang on to their prize asset, Hasenhuttl may feel he needs reinforcements up front if they are to avoid a similarly poor run next term.
As for Crystal Palace, while the Eagles have had the luxury of being able to look up the table instead of worryingly over their shoulder for the entire season, Hodgson was very pleased to have sealed the club’s place in the 2021/22 Premier League season. Deflected goals from Christian Benteke and Eberechi Eze gave Crystal Palace a 2-0 win at Bramall Lane on Saturday, snapping a run of three league defeats for the London club and guaranteeing their top-flight status next campaign.
The win lifted Roy Hodgson’s side to 13th on 41 points, 14 points clear of the danger zone with four games to play. In all honesty, Sheffield were poor and Guaita did not have one effort on goal to save. A special mention in dispatches for Milivojevic and Benteke but the man of the match award goes to Eze who is an exceptional talent. In summary, to surpass the 40 point mark is always a half-decent achievement with games to spare, but the overall feeling is that Palace should have put more points on the board this season.

Southampton meet Crystal Palace having not recorded a win in their last three outings against the Eagles at St Mary’s (D2, L1) after winning seven of their first eight Premier League home games against Crystal Palace (D1). Also, Crystal Palace are looking to secure their first league double over Southampton since the 1990-91 campaign after celebrating a 1-0 win at Selhurst Park in the reverse fixture in September.
The Saints have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven home Premier League matches and the BettingKick’s Southampton vs Crystal Palace prediction is: Both teams to score
