Southampton host Everton in the 6th week of the Premier League at St.Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) on Sunday, October 25 and the match kicks off at 2pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
The Saints, in their season opener against Crystal Palace looked like a disjointed side they were at the beginning of the last year and their misery compounded further by a heavy 2-5 defeat to Tottenham that followed. However, they bounced back at Burnley (0-1) and West Brom at home (2-0), which was followed by a hard-fought draw (3-3) against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week that puts them in the 12th place with 7 points.
As for Everton, after five weeks in the Premier League they are the only unbeaten side apart from Aston Villa so far and they deservedly top the league with 13 points from 5 matches. Tottenham, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Brighton all fell to Everton who most recently draw with defending champions Liverpool (2-2) in Merseyside derby to end their streak of seven consecutive wins in all competitions.
MATCH ANALYSIS
After three successive games without a defeat the Saints suddenly look different, more organized. With the rest of the squad, including Jack Stephens, James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong still there, and Danny Ings, who almost finished the season with the Golden Boot to his name, they have a strong core of the team, who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year. The Saints cannot rely on Ings to win games on his own and will need to be more solid defensively. Winning two games on the trot and after coming twice from behind to draw against Chelsea, with no fresh injury concerns to contend with, and having signed Theo Walcott on loan from Everton and midfielder Diallo from Brest, Ralph Hasenhuttl's side should be a bit stronger when they host the leaders on Sunday.
Despite Liverpool going ahead twice, league leaders Everton still managed to stretch their unbeaten run to eight competitive matches last week following a thrilling 2-2 with their fierce rivals (W7, D1). Everton won each of their opening four games for the first time since 1969-70, when they went on to win the title, but with the latest draw the Toffees failed to equal their record of 8 wins on the trot from over a century ago in season 1894/1895.The derby was not lacking controversy as Richarlison saw a red card for a lunge at Thiago, while Pickford was lucky to stay on the pitch after a reckless start on van Dijk that ended the Liverpool defender’s season. They can focus on the league without European games and cup games until Christmas and if they can keep the motivation and ambition up, Everton will surely reach far this year.

Although Southampton have made an unremarkable start to the season, they have lost only two of their previous 12 Premier League (PL) games (W6, D4, L2). They’ve also scored the opening goal in each of their two PL home matches so far, although interestingly, since manager Ralph Hasenhüttl took charge in December 2018, no PL side has squandered more points from winning positions (37).
Beyond being a good side, Everton this season are also an entertaining one to watch. They’ve scored an average of 3.25 goals per competitive game so far, and their last six fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score.
My prediction for this match is: Over 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
