Southampton host Leeds at the St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the 37th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Tuesday, May 18. Read our reasons for Southampton vs Leeds prediction and betting tips.
Nathan Tella scored his first senior goal as Southampton defeated relegated Fulham to register back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since December. The two results lifted them from 17th to 13th, illustrating how tight it is in the bottom half of the table. The Saints will now hope to finish as high up the table as possible to put a disappointing campaign behind them. Meanwhile, Leeds have blown their fellow promoted sides out of the water this season, potentially on course to finish with double the points tallies of West Brom and Fulham with two games to go after smashing Burnley 4-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday. The result means Leeds have lost only once in nine league games and remain on course for a top-half finish - if not a late push for European football.
With Southampton’s top-flight status secured and Fulham’s relegation fate sealed, Saturday’s game had little riding on it and the shackles were firmly off as expected at St. Mary’s. Che Adams and Nathan Tella scored to put the Saints 2-0 up, and Theo Walcott restored his side’s two-goal advantage after Fabio Carvalho had halved the deficit. The Saints reminded us that with Ings and Adams back in tandem, alongside James Ward-Prowse, Nathan Redmond, and Stuart Armstrong, this is an attractive team to watch.
It is perhaps a sign of the last few months that a win like this should get Saints fans excited, but Ralph Hasenhuttl and his men need to get the pride in Southampton Football Club back. If they put the effort from the Fulham match into every game, then the Saints would be where they started the season. Hopefully, they can build on this performance and use it as a springboard for the last couple of games, using the summer to re-evaluate, strengthen the squad and kick on next season.
As for Leeds, the Whites extended Burnley's winless run at home to nine games with a 4-0 rout on Saturday that bolstered their bid for a top-10 finish in the Premier League. Substitute Rodrigo scored two late goals to give Leeds a four-point cushion over 11th-place Aston Villa, which plays at Crystal Palace on Sunday. Mateusz Klich finished a counterattack by curling in a shot just before halftime, and Harrison doubled the lead at the hour mark.
Interestingly, Leeds have not yet drawn a top-flight away game (W9, L9). Including Championship outings last season, they’re without an away draw in 24 league fixtures – which equals a club record set back in 1927! Additionally, four of their last six PL road trips ended in defeat ‘to nil’ (W3). Nevertheless, Leeds have only lost one of their last nine Premier League matches so it won’t be surprising if they come on top at the St. Mary’s again.

Southampton meet Leeds looking to redeem for the 3-0 defeat against the Whites in the reverse fixture at the Elland Road on February 23. The Saints also lost by an identical score in the Capital One Cup all the way back in 2012 while Leeds were still in the second-tier.
Both sides have picked up back-to-back wins in the league and scored 3+ goals in all of them. Leeds still have something to play for, hoping for a top-ten finish and an unlikely place in Europe, while Southampton want to finish the season on the up after being in the slump for most of the second half of the season. We expect goals and Leeds to edge out the hosts.
