Southampton host Leicester at the St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the 34th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Friday, April 30. Read our reasons for Southampton vs Leicester prediction and betting tips.
Southampton are all-but safe from relegation despite a 2-1 loss at Tottenham last round, a defeat that saw them score first but lose for a league-high fifth time this season. Actually topping the table back on November 7, the Saints have been on a sorry run since, with only relegated Sheffield Utd claiming fewer points than Southampton's 20. On the other hand, Leicester sit pretty in third place after coming from behind to win on Monday against Crystal Palace, with their tally of 62 points at this stage better than any previous top-flight campaign bar the title-winning 2015/16. However, with their final three games of the season being against three top-five teams, the Foxes will want to secure their Champions League spot quickly.
Southampton followed up a 1-0 semi-final loss to Leicester at Wembley on April 15 by going down 2-1 at Tottenham in the Premier League at the weekend. Danny Ings gave Saints a deserved half-time lead, but they paid the price for sitting back after the break, with Son Heung-min’s late penalty a cruel decider. That was the 12th defeat in 15 league matches which left Ralph Hasenhuttl upset by the way his side gave away the goals which has really plagued them this season.
Having in mind that the Saints are still comfortably clear of being dragged into a relegation battle they may lack the motivation unless that changes. They have scored in eight of their last nine home games, though, and their form at the St. Marry’s has been marginally better than away this season - 20 points vs 16. A 3-2 come-from-behind win versus Burnley in their last home match snapped a five-game winless streak at St Mary’s (D1, L4). Now they look to avoid the third loss to the Foxes after being beaten in the league earlier and the FA Cup semi-finals on April 15 at Wembley.
As for Leicester, the Foxes have built on reaching the cup final by securing back-to-back league victories which have given them a seven-point cushion in the quest to qualify for next season’s Champions League. A smooth 3-0 success versus West Brom was followed by a gutsy, come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha put the Eagles ahead in the first half, but Timothy Castagne and the red-hot Kelechi Iheanacho replied after the interval.
Leicester have five league fixtures remaining, starting with the visit to Southampton on Friday which is followed by matches against Southampton and Newcastle, before crunch showdowns with Man United, Spurs and Chelsea. Of course, there is also the small matter of an FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on May 15. Brendan Rodgers' men were pipped to a Champions League spot on the final day of the 2019-20 campaign as they ended up in fifth but are now looking set to avoid the repeat of that.

Southampton meet Leicester having lost their last three Premier League home games against the Foxes by an aggregate score of 15-2. Their 9-0 defeat in this fixture last season is the biggest home defeat by any side in English top-flight history. Moreover, Southampton have lost twice to Leicester already this season, 0-2 in the league and 0-1 in the FA Cup.
We expect Leicester to confirm their superiority at St Mary’s Stadium on Friday night and the BettingKick’s Southampton vs Leicester prediction is: Leicester win
