SOUTHAMPTON VS MAN UTD MATCH ANALYSIS
After two straight defeats, they resembled a disjointed side at the start of the new Premier League campaign. However, they have completely turned their fortunes around since then, and have gone on a seven-game unbeaten run (W5-D2). They were impressive in their last two wins against Villa (3-4) and Newcastle (2-0) and were unfortunate not to come away with a win against Wolves (1-1) last weekend. The draw was good for the 5th place in the table with 17 points coming into this weekend. As for United, they are 10th in the standings with 13 points from their respective fixtures, albeit with a game in hand. They suffered a home defeat to top-four rivals Arsenal (0-1) three rounds ago and followed it with another disappointing performance in Europe against Basaksehir in Turkey (2-1). However, they bounced back with back-to-back wins against Everton (1-3), and West Brom at home (1-0). They also had their revenge against the Turkish side in the CL, and are awaiting the clash against the Saints on a more positive note.
The Saints suddenly look different, a more organized side after seven consecutive games without a defeat. With the squad that includes in-form Stephens, James Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, and Ings, they have a strong core of the team, who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year. They were frustrated to lose the lead and to settle for a point against Wolves, but having in mind that they haven’t won there in the last four away league games, the results bode well for their upcoming fixture against the Red Devils.
Theo Walcott scored his first goal since rejoining Southampton in their Premier League draw at Wolves. However, it could not guarantee a win that would have moved Saints to 3rd because Pedro Neto leveled with 15 minutes left. Another player who has been on form recently for the Saints is Che Adams, who has been directly involved in six goals in his past seven league games for Southampton with three goals and three assists.
Man Utd, on the other hand, are blowing hot and cold at the moment and Solskjaer cannot afford another bad run of results. They are doing alright in Europe, but their domestic form is worrisome. They have picked up only thirteen points after eight matches and have won at home for the first time in the league against the Baggies (W1-D1-L3). That is something that has never previously happened in the Premier League era, and it has been their worst start of a campaign since 1972.
Against West Brom, Bruno Fernandes' first penalty was saved but was ordered to be re-taken because goalkeeper Sam Johnstone had encroached off his line. He scored in the second attempt and it was enough to give the Red Devils their first league victory of the campaign at Old Trafford over a resilient West Brom side. After two consecutive league wins, Solskjaer’s men are in the top half of the table for the first time this season and will do their best to stay there after their visit to Southampton.

The Saints continue to impress in the 2020/21 Premier League season, and it has to be noted that they are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home ground. Key attacker Danny Ings remains in the recovery room for the hosts, which is unfortunate as Southampton are winless in their last eight Premier League meetings with Man Utd (D5 L3). In his absence, a man to keep an eye on in the home team will be Che Adams. They are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games (W5 D2) and have no reason not to feel confident against United.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, were lucky to beat WBA at the weekend, and they obviously can’t find their best form in the new Premier League campaign, and given Southampton’s impressive home record, the visitors could return home empty-handed, even though Man Utd have won their last seven Premier League away games, they’ve never won eight in a row on the road in the top-flight before.
