Southampton host Newcastle at St.Mary's Stadium (Southampton) in the 8th round of the Premier League on Friday, November 6 and the match kicks off at 8pm (UK).
SOUTHAMPTON VS NEWCASTLE MATCH ANALYSIS
With two straight losses, the Saints looked like a disjointed side at the start of the new Premier League campaign, resembling the side they were at the beginning of the last year. However, they have completely turned the tables around and have gone on a five-games unbeaten run (W4-D1). They were impressive in their last two wins against Everton (2-0) and Villa (3-4) and are 5th in the table with 13 points coming into this weekend.
Newcastle are 11th with 11 points from their first seven Premier League matches (W3-D2-L2). The Magpies aim to build on a 2-1 win over Everton. Newcastle United, though, head into the match without injured duo Shelvey and Ritchie, and given Southampton’s attacking potential, the hosts are going to struggle to pick up any points from the match.
The Saints suddenly look different, a more organized side after five successive games without a defeat. With the squad that includes in-form Stephens, James Ward-Prowse, Armstrong and Ings, who almost finished the season with the Golden Boot to his name, they have a strong core of the team, who shouldn't be in a similar situation to last year. They defeated Everton, the last remaining unbeaten team of the Premier League in the 6th round and inflicted Villa their second home defeat in the row next.
Against Villa last weekend, club stalwart James Ward-Prowse marked his 26th birthday with two goals from fantastic free-kicks as Southampton survived a late Villa charge to climb to 3rd, albeit only for a short while. The team as a whole have improved markedly, they are excellent in counter-attacking and carry a big threat from set-pieces.The only set-back from this game was that Danny Ings had picked up a knock and is rated doubtful for Friday’s showdown.
As for the Magpies, after a heavy defeat to Manchester Utd (1-4) in the 5th round , combined with illness and injuries affecting his squad, Steve Bruce’s team was not at full strength against Wolves (1-1) and Everton (2-1), but have still managed to pick up four points from two difficult fixtures. They have climbed to 11th after their latest win last Sunday.
Callum Wilson scored twice to give Newcastle a first win in three matches as Everton missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League. In the two games since their home defeat by the Red Devils, Steve Bruce has switched to a three-man central defense and reaped rewards on both occasions. Against the Saints, his side will probably set out to defend with numbers again and break with pace.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
