Southampton host West Ham at St. Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the 16th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 6 pm (UK) on Tuesday, December 29.
SOUTHAMPTON VS WEST HAM MATCH ANALYSIS
A goalless draw on Boxing Day gave Southampton a third winless game in a row (D2, L1). The Saints were shut out by Fulham at Craven Cottage and the match ended 0-0, leaving southampton in 9th place three points above their Tuesday’s opponents in 10th. To Hammers credit, the three PL away wins they’ve picked up so far (W3, D1, L3) is just one shy of their entire away tally from last campaign. They came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Brighton this weekend and could use some of that fighting spirit in a tough test against the Saints.
Oriol Romeu returns from a suspension and is set to start in midfield for the home side at the expense of Ibrahima Diallo. Even though they are at 9th, Southampton are still only two points away from the top four. However, they have struggled in the absence of Danny Ings and without trio Danny Ings, Jannik Vestergaard and Nathen Redmond they will have to take their chances in front of a goal when presented with them.
As for their most recent draw at Fulham, the Saints scored twice but VAR correctly ruled both efforts out. The uninspired Saints came closest to scoring a legitimate goal when James Ward-Prowse hit the crossbar with a first-half free-kick, but it must be noted that a defeat would have been too harsh on Fulham, who dominated for long periods. Southampton will try to regroup and refocus as they are looking to avoid the third consecutive home defeat.
West Ham have only won one of their last five Premier League games, drawing two and losing two. David Moyes want their teams to be running close to the pack that's chasing the top four but neither teams' recent record has been encouraging. However, the East London side have traditionally impressed against their south coast counterparts and will be desperate to return to winning ways when they face Southampton.
On Boxing Day, the Seagulls took the lead towards the end of a first half through Neal Maupay, but West Ham improved after the break and equalised when Ben Johnson scored his first goal for the club. Then Lewis Dunk thought he had won it for Brighton with his first goal of the season, but Soucek came up with another crucial goal to deprive Brighton of maximum points. With a draw, West Ham remained 10th but wit 22 points.

Southampton have lost five straight clashes against West Ham. The Saints lost the last two home foxtures to the Hammers, as many as they’ve lost in their 15 head-to-head matches earlier.
Despite losing some of their bite in the absence of Danny Ings, Southampton are still just two points off the top four and Hasenhuttl will be demanding a reaction from his side when West Ham pay a visit to the St.Mary’s.
David Moyes, on the other hand, has fashioned a very decent West Ham side that is disciplined while often creative and attack-minded. They have been rewarded for their enterprising play with some impressive results, notably big wins against Wolves and Leicester and draws at Manchester City and Tottenham.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
