Atalanta has shown a tendency to struggle after a break for international duty, so Spezia is poised for a potential upset at the Orogel Stadium in Cesena.
These clubs have never met in Serie A and their most recent Serie B encounter was 0-0 in April 1939. Spezia is in their first-ever Serie A season, but coach Vincenzo Italiano always takes an attacking and entertaining approach, something he has in common with Gian Piero Gasperini. They flattened fellow newcomers Benevento 3-0 in their last outing and fought their way to 2-2 draws with both Fiorentina and Parma.
Spezia ran riot at the Stadio Vigorito with Tommaso Pobega and the first two career Serie A goals for M’Bala Nzola to stun Benevento. These sides were both promoted from Serie B last season, making this a relegation six-pointer just seven rounds into the campaign. Spezia dominated the match and came away with a comfortable 3-0 victory, as Pobega got his second goal of the season with a cushioned volley. Nzola had never scored in Serie A before, yet found the net twice in five minutes to finish the route.
Italiano is one of several young coaches in Serie A this season who decided to take an attacking approach, even with a limited budget and ambitions. Spezia has the lowest wage bill of all the clubs in the top flight. They have found the net with seven different players in Serie A so far this season and tend to crowd into the opposition penalty area.
Spezia (4-3-3): Provedel; Ferrer, Terzi, Dell’Orco, S Bastoni; Estevez, Ricci, Pobega; Agudelo, Nzola, Gyasi
Suspended: None
Injured: Mattiello, Acampora, Bartolomei, Mastinu, Zoet, Ramos, Sala, Galabinov, Verde, Chabot, Rafael
Atalanta is the most international of Serie A sides and that can be a hindrance when their players have flown around the world and come back to Bergamo for a Saturday game. Ruslan Malinovskyi picked up COVID-19 while in Ukraine, but it’s in defense where options are somewhat limited by injuries.
Atalanta and Inter were both somewhat anxious after Champions League defeats and stuttering Serie A results. So, it was a wide-open Lombardy Derby in Bergamo last time Atalanta came out on the pitch, as Aleksei Miranchuk came off the bench and replied to the Lautaro Martinez header. The Nerazzurri took the lead through an instinctive glancing header from Lautaro Martinez, finding the net without looking. Marco Sportiello made several world-class saves and they paid off, as substitute Miranchuk turned with one swift movement to secure the equalizer. Luis Muriel came close to a winner late on, only grazing a diving header wide.
Atalanta will be concerned with the fatigue of many players that were involved hugely with their national teams especially for the Columbian striker duo Muriel – Zapata who had to be in Quito at 3500m altitude for the Ecuador match.
Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Sportiello; Toloi, Romero, Djimsiti; Hateboer, Pessina, Freuler, Ruggeri; Ilicic, Gomez; Duvan Zapata
Suspended: None
Injured: Malinovskyi, Palomino, De Roon, Caldara, Piccini, Gosens

Spezia played some good games lately but Atalanta must pick up wins to remain close to the top of the league after some losses at the start. The away team is the favorite to win but both teams to score is the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
