Two promoted sides with a fighting chance of Serie A survival meet at Stadio Alberto Picco on Saturday, as Spezia faces Benevento for three precious points. Read our reasons for Spezia vs Benevento prediction and betting tips.
Vincenzo Italiano left the Allianz Juventus Stadium with ‘regrets’ after Spezia fell 3-0. ‘The result is far, far too harsh for the game we saw.’ The Aquilotti again put in a strong performance but were unable to make their pressure and possession count, losing 3-0 in Turin. Exactly like their last meeting earlier this season, the game was transformed by substitutions, this time Federico Bernardeschi and Alvaro Morata. Andrij Galabinov had the chance to score a consolation goal in stoppages, but Wojciech Szczesny saved his penalty. “The regret is that we came here, played so well for an hour, and then lost 3-0. That result is far, far too harsh for the game that we saw today,” Italiano told media. “We often got into the final third, had two or three situations where we really could’ve hurt Juve, then once we conceded two goals in 10 minutes, the fatigue set in, and being 2-0 down becomes difficult psychologically. As a coach, I must be happy with what I’ve seen today and confident going into the future, because if we play with this character in the remaining 13 games, then we can have a strong season.’’
Vincenzo Italiano's injury list has cleared in recent days, with only Riccardo Saponara and Federico Mattiello ruled out for Spezia on Saturday. Both Julian Chabot and Simone Bastoni are vying for a return to the team, with Martin Erlic and the versatile Riccardo Marchizza - despite impressing offensively versus Juventus - most at risk of stepping out of the back four. Meanwhile, in midfield, on-loan Tommaso Pobega's condition will be assessed ahead of kickoff and the Milan-owned starlet could come in for Leo Sena if fully fit. The once-familiar attacking trident of M'Bala Nzola, Diego Farias, and Emmanuel Gyasi has been re-established in the last week and should continue to lead the way in Italiano's 4-3-3 formation.
Spezia: Provedel; Vignali, Terzi, Chabot, Bastoni; Maggiore, Estevez, Ricci; Gyasi, Nzola, Farias
Hellas Verona dominated sorry Benevento at the Stadio Vigorito, with a little help from the Daam Foulon's own goal, but there could easily have been more. The pressure was growing on Le Streghe, who were without a win in eight, and it was a bad start for Benevento because Gaetano Letizia went off in tears with an injury after just 11 minutes. Darko Lazovic got down the left and floated the cross over his head, finding Marco Davide Faraoni to nod in from close range. Mattia Zaccagni almost had a second moments later, his curler deflected wide, and every time Verona put in a cross from the left, it caused panic. That happened again on the second goal, as Daam Foulon tried to clear with an acrobatic header, but instead, just put it into his net. It was one-way traffic and Antonin Barak’s ferocious strike rattled the crossbar on 38 minutes, while Montipò rushed off his line to close down Lasagna. However, Lasagna got his first goal in the Verona jersey when he knocked down a long ball, turned, and ran forward, surprising Montipò at the near post when the goalkeeper had already made the dive to cover the far stick.
Benevento's Gaetano Letizia is set to miss out after leaving the field in tears during the midweek defeat to Verona, so Federico Barba could return from suspension to slot in at left-back for the visitors. Captain Nicolas Viola is expected to come back into the midfield, while Gianluca Caprari will again compete with Roberto Insigne and Marco Sau for one of two advanced roles in support of a lone striker Gianluca Lapadula, after being dropped in midweek.
Benevento: Montipo; Improta, Glik, Caldirola, Barba; Hetemaj, Schiattarella, Ionita; Viola, Caprari; Lapadula

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
