Genoa has officially sacked coach Rolando Maran before their trip to Spezia.
Vincenzo Italiano believes Spezia could do more against Inter but claims his players ‘left the field with their heads held high.’ Inter registered their sixth consecutive Serie A victory thanks to Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, despite a late Spezia consolation. The Nerazzurri had gone close through Ashley Young in the first half, but Lautaro Martinez found the right pass to unleash Hakimi’s pace. VAR was used on the M’Bala Nzola handball to award a penalty, converted by Lukaku for his 11th Serie A goal of the season. Spezia had some consolation late on with Atalanta-owned Roberto Piccoli’s debut top-flight strike. Spezia will face Genoa in a Liguria derby next week before the Christmas break.
Center-back Julian Chabot will return from suspension, with captain Claudio Terzi likely to make way. Spezia is still monitoring the recovery of Juan Ramos, and he could feature, though Federico Mattiello, Elio Capradossi, and goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet remain sidelined.
Spezia (4-3-3): Ivan Provedel (GK); Salvador Ferrer, Claudio Terzi, Julian Chabot, Simone Bastoni; Giulio Maggiore, Lucien Agoume, Nahuel Estevez; Emmanuel Gyasi, M'Bala Nzola, Diego Farias
Genoa has officially appointed Davide Ballardini, who returns to the Marassi for the fourth time, this time as Rolando Maran’s successor. The Grifone are the second team to have changed coach this term and Ballardini has returned to take charge at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for the fourth period. Ballardini returns to Genoa, where he has already coached three different periods previously, during 2010-11, 2012-13, 2017-18, and 2018-19. The Rossoblu are 19th in Serie A after the 2-0 defeat to Benevento on Sunday and stretched the winless run to 12 consecutive League matches. President Enrico Preziosi has decided to part ways with Maran, who was brought in to replace Davide Nicola last summer.
Valon Behrami is expected to come back into the starting XI after having to settle for the substitutes' bench in recent weeks. To compound Genoa's woes, Ballardini will be without many of their key players, with what has become an extensive injury list. Currently, Genoa is without former Chelsea full-back Davide Zappacosta, Federico Marchetti, Francesco Cassata, Davide Biraschi, Cristian Zapata, Goran Pandev, and Vittorio Parigini.
Genoa (4-4-2): Mattia Perin; Davide Zappacosta, Andrea Masiello, Mattia Bani, Domenico Criscito; Paolo Ghiglione, Stefano Sturaro, Milan Badelj, Marko Pjaca; Gianluca Scamacca, Mattia Destro

Genoa could benefit from shock therapy, but Spezia has more confidence and they are one of the most organized sides in the league. Both teams to score looks like a decent bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
