Lazio is finding it difficult to balance the Champions League with Serie A and face a tough challenge to beat revelations Spezia at Orogel Stadium in Cesena.
It all points to a potential upset when Lazio comes to play against the team fresh enough and eager to continue with a good series of results. Spezia is the ideal team to do that, losing just one of their last eight competitive fixtures. They’ve beaten Benevento, earning draws with Atalanta, Parma, Fiorentina, and Cagliari.
It could be similar as it was last weekend in a hugely entertaining clash in Sardinia, as Cagliari fought back from a goal down to lead, only to be caught by a stoppage-time penalty that earned Spezia a valuable point. Simone Bastoni deserves much of the credit for the Spezia opener, as he started his run from midfield and placed an assist on a platter for Emmanuel Gyasi who in a meantime extended his contract through 2023. Cagliari turned it around with two goals in six minutes, as Joao Pedro spun round to score, then Leonardo Pavoletti had his first goal in 18 months with a sensational back-heel flick. However, deep into stoppages, M’Bala Nzola converted a penalty to give Spezia a point.
Spezia (4-3-3): Provedel; Vignali, Terzi, Erlic, S Bastoni; Acampora, Maggiore, Ricci; Farias, Nzola, Gyasi
Suspended: None
Injured: Zoet, Ramos, Dell’Orco, Galabinov, Verde, Sena, Pobega, Mattiello, Capradossi

Lazio had a hard time with coronavirus and fighting in the Seria A and UCL every few days and they are fitting the recent pattern in this more condensed campaign of struggling to maintain consistency when playing big games almost every time they are on the pitch. Lazio qualification for the Round of 16 is still in the balance and all go down to a meeting with Club Brugge next week after their exhausting 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. Ciro Immobile’s penalty canceled out a Raphael Guerreiro opener, but Lazio had the chance to win their 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund. As Club Brugge beat Zenit 3-0 in the other game, it all goes down to the final match.
In the Seria A, last weekend was upsetting for the Lazio fans, as Udinese turned on the style despite missing several key players and earned a shock 3-1 win away in Rome. It was a surprise result at the Stadio Olimpico, especially as it was the Friulani’s first Serie A victory here since 2014. Tolgay Arslan made the most of a Roberto Pereyra pass that nutmegged Patric, taking a slight deflection off Francesco Acerbi. Samir acrobatically hit the crossbar, before Ignacio Pussetto doubled Udinese’s lead on the stroke of half-time with Rodrigo De Paul the inspiration this time. De Paul’s flicked pass was intercepted, but only as far as Fernando Forestieri for his first Serie A goal in 12 years. Ciro Immobile earned and converted a penalty, but it was not enough for Lazio to make up for the dismal first half.
Lazio (3-5-2): Strakosha; Patric, Acerbi, Radu; Lazzari, Milinkovic-Savic, Leiva, Luis Alberto, Fares; Immobile, Correa
Suspended: None
Injured: Lulic, Muriqi
On a yellow card: Leiva

The only ever previous meeting between these teams in all competitions was Spezia 2-5 Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-final in May 1941. It could be similar this time, a high-scoring game with both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
