Milan remains top of the Serie A table and will hope to take advantage of a tough weekend for their Scudetto rivals, although Spezia are no pushovers.
Spezia has recently beaten Sassuolo, Sampdoria, and Napoli, so are not to be taken for granted, even amid an epic injury crisis. Their coach Vincenzo Italiano explained the tactical adjustments he made to get Sassuolo out of their comfort zone in the surprise 2-1 Spezia win. This was just the latest coup from Spezia, who also earned surprise away wins at Udinese and Benevento. “We wanted to make Sassuolo feel uncertain by pressing them all over the pitch and throughout the game, so that worked well,” the coach told media. “It’s an important victory for us, as there are some moments when we lose our way and then others like this evening where it goes right. It was a convincing performance as well as a great win.”
Spezia was decimated by injuries and bans, so surprisingly used Kevin Agudelo as a False 9. “We needed someone with a lot of pace up there and we’re happy with the results that this tactical change has provided. What we must do is find more of a balance, because all it takes is three or four defeats for us to lose our confidence again. If we can emerge from a difficult period of form with a win like this, it means we’ve got the capability, we just need to keep it going.”

With Inter facing on-form Lazio and Juventus traveling to Napoli, it could be a big opportunity for the leaders to extend the gap. Stefano Pioli was ‘not surprised’ by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s record-breaking form and hopes he ‘continues playing with us’ in the future, as Milan crush Crotone 4-0 to recapture the top spot. These were two very special goals, as 39-year-old Ibrahimovic netted his 500th and 501st at club level. “Seeing how Ibra trains, we can’t be surprised, because he’s a champion. It’s difficult to maintain his current form, as when he’s been in shape and started, he almost always scored two goals, but this is what he’s like,” Pioli told media.
When he was substituted, Ibrahimovic made a gesture towards the directors in the stands that means ‘two, go again.’ Was it a message about his contract extension talks? “Zlatan is happy with us and I think the best thing about this team is that the players are happy. We are with a huge club, everyone wants to do well and I think it’s right that he continues playing, and that he does it with us. He is a highly motivated athlete, is scrupulous in the way he looks after his body with everything from diet to recovery. He’s tired, but you don’t stay at this level for this long without looking after yourself. It’s almost a race nowadays between the players to get to training early and leave later than anyone else. We’re enjoying ourselves and want to give our best.”
Milan (4-2-3-1): G Donnarumma; Dalot, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Leao; Ibrahimovic

Injured: Brahim Diaz, Tonali

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could become the first player in this Century to score against 80 different clubs in Europe’s top five leagues. Milan showed that they know the way to win against less quality rivals. Away win is the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
