Parma ended the dismal losing streak, but only managed a draw against Udinese, as they host a Spezia side who struggle more with minnows. Read our reasons for Spezia vs Parma prediction and betting tips.
Spezia is the only side with a better record against teams in the top half of the table than the bottom, as shown by their leap from beating Milan 2-0 to losing 3-0 at Fiorentina. Vincenzo Italiano said Spezia ‘could have done more’ before the break and was sad to see ‘the positive run ended' by a 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina. Gaetano Castrovilli came off the bench to turn the game around for Viola and Italiano felt Spezia was punished for not having scored during the first 45 minutes. “We could have done more in the first half, in which we played the game,” Italiano said at the post-match press conference. “Then in the second half, we conceded goals and were unable to react. “When these games get complicated, it’s hard to get them back on track. Spezia did what they had to do, keeping the game in hand.''
The coach was sad to see the setback after back-to-back wins against Sassuolo and Milan in recent weeks, but vowed to ‘start again’. “I’m sorry the positive run ended,” he said. “We weren’t pungent like on other occasions. If you put these teams in difficulty then they struggle to find goals. We approached the game in a great way, pushing Fiorentina down. The only mistake was not scoring. For Spezia to come here and command the game, I think it’s a merit."

The Ducali had taken a 2-0 lead last week before fumbling it for a 2-2 thriller and cannot keep dropping opportunities like that, but it did at least show some improvement. Roberto D’Aversa claims Parma ‘must be disappointed’ after their 2-2 draw against Udinese and explained why Gervinho and Jasmin Kurtic were sent to the stands. The Ducali remain involved in the race for Serie A survival after wasting a two-goal lead against Udinese at the Ennio Tardini. "I think there must be a disappointment for the result, but not for the performance,” the coach told the media. “It’s proof that you have a to kill off the game when you have a chance. There were many occasions where we should have been more clinical and eventually Udinese scored the equalizer. Having said that, in the final minutes we still had two sensational opportunities to bring home the three points," D'Aversa added. “There must be discomfort for the result but not for the performance because we made a good game. The refereeing was debatable too, sometimes episodes can decide the game. There have been more yellow cards than fouls. Someone else will judge the referee, we must only focus on ourselves.”
D’Aversa explained why Gervinho and Jasmin Kurtic were sent to the stands and were not available for the game. “I had already decided Gervinho would have started on the bench. He’s always played since I returned and he must be managed properly, given his age. There are also other reasons and I always expect the maximum of professionality from both of them, on and off the pitch.”
Parma (4-3-3): Sepe; Conti, Alves, Gagliolo, Pezzella; Kucka, Hernani, Kurtic; Karamoh, Cornelius, Mihaila
Suspended: Bani, Brugman
Injured: Pelle, Caviglia

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
