Spezia host Sampdoria for the 1st game between teams from Liguria in Serie A and the Blucerchiati are looking to build on their good run against newly-promoted teams.
Spezia hasn’t won two on the bounce in Serie A, but after they defeated Napoli on Wednesday they have every right to believe this is the moment to make a breakthrough. It was a very strange game and even Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano claimed ‘football is unpredictable’ as Spezia earned all three points against Napoli in their ‘worst game.’ The newly-promoted Serie A side won 2-1 at the Stadio Maradona despite being reduced to 10 men and have now earned 11 of their 14 points away from home. Tommaso Pobega, a product of Milan academy, came off the bench and scored the winner in the second half.
Napoli wasted dozens of scoring opportunities, Lorenzo Insigne should’ve scored in the opening minute on a smart Lozano assist rolled across, but he scuffed the finish with Ivan Provedel rushing off the line. Politano, Lozano, Insigne, Ruiz, Lozano, Insigne, Lozano, Politano, that should be the shortest report about Napoli's unconverted chances in the first half. The siege continued after the restart, Lozano and then substitute Andrea Petagna forcing Provedel saves from close range. The deadlock was finally broken when Di Lorenzo rolled across from the right and Petagna positioned himself just in front of Claudio Terzi to toe-poke in from six yards.
Napoli was punished at the end because Spezia was awarded a very soft penalty when Fabian Ruiz bumped into the back of Tommaso Pobega. M’Bala Nzola converted by sending David Ospina the wrong way with one of the first Spezia attempts on target. Ismajli received a second yellow card for jumping with elbow raised on Petagna, but Spezia down to 10 men still found the way to the victory. The Napoli defense was caught napping on both the Emmanuel Gyasi through ball for Nzola, then on the rebound when his angled drive bounced off the inside of the far post, as Tommaso Pobega reacted quicker.
Spezia (4-3-3): Provedel; Ferrer, Terzi, Chabot, Marchizza; Estevez, Agoume, Pobega; Gyasi, Nzola, Farias
Suspended: Ismajli
Injured: Zoet, Galabinov, Mattiello, Ricci, Acampora, Bastoni
Claudio Ranieri praised his players but admitted the absence of Romelu Lukaku helped Sampdoria in their 2-1 win over Inter. The Blucerchiati took all the three points home thanks to goals from ex-Inter players Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde. Fabio Quagliarella has been linked with a move to Juventus and spent the whole game on the bench, but Ranieri insists his choices have nothing to do with transfer speculations and Balde took advantage of minutes he got on the pitch. Antonio Conte started Romelu Lukaku on the bench as the Belgian picked up a minor muscle injury last weekend. The former Manchester United star came off the bench in the second half but Sampdoria's defense was good enough to save the three points.
Ranieri concluded with a bit of advice for his club. “The pitch at the Marassi was in terrible conditions, it always rains in Genoa, how long does it take to buy a pitch cover?” They should continue to take points after such a big win because the Blucerchiati have only lost once in seven games against a promoted team with coach Claudio Ranieri at the helm.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Audero; Bereszynski, Colley, Tonelli, Augello; Candreva, Ekdal, Thorsby, Jankto; Keita, Quagliarella
Suspended: none
Injured: Prelec, Gabbiadini, Ferrari

Sampdoria hasn’t kept a clean sheet in 18 away games in the League and are only six games away from matching the 24 consecutive away games conceding in 1956. Both teams to score is a most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
