Spezia is unbeaten against Udinese in the last seven games in all competitions (Serie A, Serie B, and Coppa Italia) and this could be another game to add to their streak.
Vincenzo Italiano was glad Spezia eventually ‘lost with dignity’ after a 4-2 defeat to Napoli in the Coppa Italia quarter-final. They had been 4-0 down by half-time, making qualification practically impossible, but Spezia did get two back after the break with Emanuel Gyasi and Gennaro Acampora. “If you get the wrong approach from the start against a great team, you will pay for that mistake,” Italiano told the media. “We lost with dignity, and nobody enjoys losing, but we tried to make up for our errors in the second half. We honored the Coppa Italia and reached the quarter-finals.”
This is Spezia’s first-ever Serie A season, so the focus has to be on avoiding relegation. “We’ll see what happens over the next 19 rounds. If we play the way we did in the first half with Napoli, then we’re in trouble. If we play as we did in the second half, then we can survive.” Goalkeeper Titas Krapikas struggled again in goal, so now that Jeroen Zoet has recovered from injury, it will be interesting to see who will get another chance as a second goalkeeper behind Provedel. Roberto Piccoli picked up an injury earlier this week and will be replaced by Andrej Galabinov’s in the hosts’ attack. Tommaso Pobega is in doubt due to a hip problem. Either Riccardo Marchizza or Simone Bastoni could start as left-back.
Spezia (4-3-3): Provedel; Vignali, Terzi, Chabot, Marchizza; Estevez, Agoume, Maggiore, Gyasi, Galabinov, Farias
Suspended: none
Injured: Mattiello, Piccoli, Ferrer, Nzola, Saponara
Udinese’s last victory in Serie A is dated back to December 12, when they beat Torino 3-2 away. Their coach Luca Gotti insisted they weren’t overly-defensive in the 0-0 draw with Inter. ‘We didn’t stop playing our football.’ The Friulani played their second consecutive draw, having held Atalanta to a 1-1 result in Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 10 fixture. “The lads did well in both matches, as we were under pressure yes, but didn’t stop playing our football,” Gotti told media.
The coach hauled midfielder Tolgay Arslan off after just 33 minutes. “Arslan was doing well, but he was already on a yellow card and had risked a tackle that could’ve been a second booking, so I didn’t want to risk going down to 10 men so early in a big game.” Despite some strong performances against the big clubs, Gotti continues to deal with on-going reports he could be fired. “I struggle to know what to say when asked about these things. Any coach whose team isn’t high up the table will be under pressure. It’s a law of football and I accept it.” New signing Fernando Llorente could start as a sole striker for the Friulani.
Udinese (3-5-2): Musso; Rodrigo Becao, Nuytinck, Bonifazi; Stryger Larsen, De Paul, Mandragora, Pereyra, Zeegelaar; Deulofeu, Llorente
Suspended: Samir
Injured: Okaka, Pussetto, Jajalo

Spezia played some wonderful football from time to time but their defense is far from good. Both teams to score looks like the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
