Mid-table Verona travels to face 17th-placed Spezia in their upcoming Serie A fixture on Sunday.
Spezia had a chance to escape from the relegation battle but Davide Ballardini returned for his fourth stint as Genoa coach and started this one with a potentially massive 2-1 win away at expense of the hosts. It was the best beginning for Spezia as M’Baye Nzola confirmed his excellent form with his seventh Serie A goal of the season. Things turned around later, Mattia Destro made the most of the Goran Pandev assist, then VAR was used to give Genoa a penalty, converted by Domenico Criscito.
They could be in bigger problem as West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Spezia striker M'Bala Nzola, but the newly-promoted Serie A side is preparing an offer to extend his stay at the club. The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 10 Serie A appearances so far this season, attracting the interest of several Premier League clubs, including West Ham. The Hammers have already made contact with Spezia asking for information about the transfer availability of the French striker who joined the newly promoted Serie A side as a free agent from Trapani this past October. The contract of the 24-year-old expires in 2023, but his encouraging start to the season has convinced the Aquilotti to consider a contract extension offer.
The hosts have a substantial injury list ahead of this game. Leo Sena, Federico Mattiello, Jeroen Zoet, and Andrej Galabinov are ruled out of this game. Salvador Ferrer, Cristiano Dell’Orco, and Daniele Verde are in doubt and face late fitness tests. Defender Claudio Terzi was suspended for the third time this season and will miss this home game against Verona.
Spezia (4-3-3): Ivan Provedel (GK); Luca Vignali, Martin Erlić, Julian Chabot, Riccardo Marchizza; Giulio Maggiore, Lucien Agoume, Nahuel Estevez; Emmanuel Gyasi, M'Bala Nzola, Diego Farias
Verona played another good game but Inter secured their seventh consecutive Serie A victory, as Lautaro Martinez broke his drought and Milan Skriniar and Samir Handanović made up for an error on the Verona goal. The Nerazzurri kept themselves in the Scudetto hunt with a hard-fought win at the Stadio Bentegodi. Lautaro Martinez hadn’t found the net for a month but met the Achraf Hakimi cross with a well-taken volley. Skriniar and Samir Handanovic were caught napping for the Ivan Ilic equalizer, but Skriniar sealed the win with his header at the other end. Handanović also was ready to save Inter goal on several occasions and that was enough to stop the excellent Verona side that has a great start to the season.
The visitors will be without Nikola Kalinic, Samuel Di Carmine, Andrea Favilli, Ronaldo Vieira, and Marco Benassi for this trip. The absence of these attacking players poses a problem for manager Ivan Jurić, as Verona has struggled in the final third this term.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Marco Silvestri (GK); Davide Faraoni, Kevin Rüegg, Koray Gunter, Federico Ceccherini; Federico Dimarco, Miguel Veloso, Adrien Tameze, Davide Faraoni, Mattia Zaccagni; Darko Lazović, Ebrima Colley; Eddie Salcedo

Verona still has problems to score but they are very good in transition and made problems to every rival in this season. Spezia will try to exploit home ground advantage, and both teams to score is a most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
