Stoke host Birmingham on the match-day four of the Championship at Bet365 Stadium (Stoke on Trent) on Sunday, October 4 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Stoke have picked up four points from their first three matches in the league, after a goalless draw against Millwall, the Potters were defeated at home to Bristol (0-2) and won away at Preston (1-0). They have also kept their Carabao Cup hopes alive by surprisingly defeating the Wolves on the road (0-1) in the second round, which was followed by a 1-0 win against the League One side Gillingham that set them up against the in-form Aston Villa, who they also beat by a solitary goal.
Birmingham also made a winning start to their season courtesy of a 1-0 victory against last year's play-off finalists, Brentford. They followed it with a goalless draw against Swansea and most recently, with a 1-1 draw against Rotherham. They are 8th in the table with 5 points from their little unbeaten run in the first three rounds in the league. However, it must be noted that the Blues have won just 1 of their last 19 competitive matches in all competitions (D9-L9).
MATCH ANALYSIS
After their loss against Bristol, Stoke won three games on the trot with identical 1-0 result against Gillingham and Aston Villa in Carabao Cup, as they progressed to the quarter finals, and they repeated that score-line in their first Championship win against Preston. Even though there were a lot of positives to take from the Preston game, Michael O'Neill was the first to acknowledge that his players must improve in the final third having failed to score more than once in any of their six matches this season. Stoke are sitting 15th in the table with 4 points and if they can take three points next week against Birmingham it will have been a decent start. Stoke ended 2019/2020 campaign on a high note with three victories and a draw in their last four games, and they kept the best part of that team. Finally, the win against Villa in the cup gives them a bit of confidence going into Sunday's game against Birmingham.
As for Birmingham, they started the last season with a win against the Bees as well, but after a promising start to the campaign failed to keep the momentum going and ended barely above the relegation zone. More importantly, with that win on the opening day, they ended the barren run of 17 games without a win in all competitions. Most recently, the Blues earned a draw against Rotherham after a late penalty drama. They probably should have won the game, had they taken their chances, but if you concede a goal in 88 or 89 minutes, to come back in the last minute and even have a chance to win the game is brilliant. Aitor Karanka felt a bit disappointed with the first-half, but said his side was much improved in the second. All they need is a bit of consistency and to built on the good defensive displays.

All seven of Stoke City’s competitive matches so far this season have now produced under 2.5 goals, while only 3 matches in their last 11 produced over 2.5 goals. Moreover, the half-time result has been mirrored at full-time in the ‘Potters’ last four matches, and interestingly, in all seven of their games so far there hasn't been a match where both teams scored - either one side scored or none of the sides.
Birmingham have also been struggling for a while now with goals, even though their position in the table doesn't paint the full picture. they have failed to score in their last 6 away fixtures in all comps, but on a more positive note they have conceded only once in both halves in their last 14 matches.
Both teams have been on the score-sheet only three times in their last 15 head-to-head league matches, so my prediction for this game is:
Both teams to score - no.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
