Stoke City and Blackpool get the 2020/2021 season underway on Saturday, August 29, when they meet in the Carabao Cup first round at Bet365 Stadium in Stoke on Trent and the match will kick off at 3pm (UK).
Stoke, managed by former Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill, will be tough opponents for Blackpool, who are going to play their first competitive match for over five months coming into this game. However, the Seasiders had a brilliant pre-season campaign and manager Neil Critchly will be sure that his men will head into this tie full of confidence, since they have picked three wins and a draw in the five friendly matches in the pre-season.
STOKE VS BLACKPOOL MATCH ANALYSIS
The Potters ended their Championship campaign in good form little more than a month ago with a 4-1 win at Nottingham Forest. They were actually unbeaten in their last four matches of the season, with three victories and a draw during that period. Since then, they have boosted the squad with four new signings, adding experience to his team for the upcoming campaign. Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel signed for the Club earlier this month and Morgan Fox, James Chester and Steven Fletcher have all been signed since then.
The Championship side did finish their season much later, which is why they have played only two pre-season matches to date. They were victorious against Northern Irish side Linfield, but lost by the same score (1:0) against League one side Burton.
Blackpool changed managers in March, appointing the former Liverpool Under-23 manager Neil Critchley. It was an odd timing for such a move, because the new manager got to manage the team for only two games before the League One campaign was brought to a premature end due to a coronavirus outbreak.
Consequently, the Seasiders have not played a single competitive games since March 10 when they lost to Tranmere Rovers, but, have on the other hand had more than enough time to regroup and get plenty of pre-season friendlies. They won their games against Southport, Port Vale and Barrow and drew against Everton. The only loss of pre-season was to Blackburn Rovers. They have also bolstered their squad with Alex Fojticek, arriving from Manchester United and a couple more new signings who could make their first start on Saturday.

The fact that his side finished the Championship season on a strong foot, will make O'Neill eager to maintain that feeling and mentality in a first game of the new season, However, with one eye on the September 12, when the Championship starts, he will have to make a good balance between fitness and tactics. The Tangerines' manager will try to implement his philosophy from his time with Liverpool and they could give Stoke hard time with their pressing game, but eventually, the Potters should have more than enough fire-power in the final third to overcome their rival.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
