STOKE VS BOURNEMOUTH MATCH ANALYSIS
The Potters head into this match sitting in 7th place in the standings with 35 points and have done well despite missing key players. The Potters are set to host the Cherries for their latest EFL league game, on the back of a 1-1 home draw against Notts Forest on Tuesday. The visitors, on the other hand, have had a week’s rest to bounce back from their goalless draw against Luton at the Kenilworth Road after their Milwall match was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak. They didn’t have too much use of it, however, as they lost 2-1 to Brentford in London to finish 2020 in 4th place with 38 points.
Despite missing important players, Michael O'Neill's side has enjoyed some good performances, and the Potters are well-positioned to be in contention for the promotion spots after being undefeated in their last five Championship matches (W1, D4). The Potters are just a single point off the playoff places, and Michael O'Neill will rue a missed opportunity to get there in their last two games, which they drew against Coventry on Boxing Day and Notts Forest in midweek.
On Tuesday, Stoke and Nottingham both drew for the second game running on a night of two freak goals in the Bet365 Stadium shrouded in fog. Conditions were cold but clear when Stoke took the lead with a comical opening goal after Jordan Thompson's corner, but, in worsening conditions after the break, Forest's leveler was to prove equally bizarre as Stoke skipper James Chester diverted a powerful header into his own net.
As for Bournemouth, they have scored the most goals this season (36), along with Blackburn and Brentford, which is a sign of doing something right despite the latest dent in form. Jason Tindall's side has also kept clean sheets in five of their last six matches. The South Coast side has lost the fewest games in the Championship along with the Bees(3), but have only won 3 of their 11 away games so far, which was highlighted in their two most recent league games.
In midweek, two promotion rivals were looking to end a turbulent 2020 with victory to boost their Premier League ambitions, with Bournemouth aiming to bounce straight back after relegation. They started well as Solanke eventually put the visitors ahead with his seventh goal in 10 games, but Dalsgaard leveled 12 minutes later. The tempo and quality remained high throughout the second-half as neither side was content to settle for a point. Unfortunately for the Cherries, Tariqe Fosu sent Brentford second with a late headed winner.

These sides will meet in league action for the first time since the 2017-18 Premier League season when Bournemouth won both games 2-1.
Stoke will be boosted by Souttar, Fletcher, and Thompson coming back into the team after their injuries. Moreover, fit-again Wales midfielder Joe Allen made his first start in nine months in midweek after an Achilles injury. However, Stoke who have now won just once in seven games, stay seventh. The Potters will be aiming for maximum points, but in all fairness, they have been struggling with scoring lately.
Bournemouth boss Tindall does not have any major injury concerns to deal with in his squad at the moment. The defeat in the capital city was only Bournemouth's second in 11 games, but they still have a game in hand on the three teams above them. On the other hand, more ominously, the Cherries haven’t won their opening league match in any of their last eight calendar years (D6 L2), which is a record they would like to set straight on Saturday.
BettingKick’s prediction for the Stoke vs Bournemouth match is: Under 2.5 goals
