Stoke host Reading at the Bet365 Stadium (Stoke on Trent) in the 28th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, February 6.
STOKE VS READING MATCH ANALYSIS
Stoke come into this match looking to end a nine-game run without a win (D5, L4) in all competitions. They sit four places below the play-off berth in 10th and after a 1-1 share of spoils against Huddersfield at the Kirklees and will be looking to finally pick up those elusive three points against Reading next, although it doesn’t seem too likely. As for the visitors, Reading head into this match on the back of a disappointing goalless draw at Preston and a 3-1 win against fellows play-off hopefuls Bournemouth. They climbed into fourth in the table, 7 points off the top and only 3 points from the automatic promotion berth (2nd place). They travel to stoke in the midst of a six-game unbeaten run in the league (W4, D2).
One positive for Stoke is the return of captain Ryan Shawcross to their starting XI after he had spent much of the past 18 months recovering from injuries. The Potters have been busy in this transfer window as they signed wingers - Wales international Rabbi Matondo from Schalke 04 on loan and D'Margio Wright-Phillips, son of Shaun and Ian Wright's grandson from Manchester City in hope of adding more goals and assists. However, since losing both Lee Gregory and top scorer Tyrese Campbell with knee problems, the Potters have struggled to find the back of a net.
At St. John’s Stadium, the 10-man Stoke held on for a point as Huddersfield failed to finish their chances. Right-back Pipa put the Terriers in front, but Michael O'Neill's side were then gifted an equaliser midway through the first half when Naby Sarr's lunging challenge brought down Tom Clarke in the penalty area and Steven Fletcher converted the spot-kick. But any chance of a first league win in 2021 for the Potters was dented when Rhys Norrington-Davies was shown a straight red on the stroke of half-time.
Reading, on the other hand, have promotion ambitions and will look to get all three points to consolidate their play-off chances. They will also look to get the record straight against Stoke after losing the reverse encounter at home (3-0) on November 7. Last Sunday against Preston (0-0) was a huge chance to go level on points with Swansea and Watford in second place, but the Royals squandered it mainly down to a missed penalty from star man Lucas Joao in the 83rd minute.
However, this time around, Reading further underlined their Championship promotion credentials with a convincing win against out-of-form Bournemouth. First-half goals from Josh Laurent, Tom McIntyre, and Lucas Joao helped stretch their unbeaten run to six games and lifted them to fourth in the table, three points behind second-placed Swansea. Veljko Paunovic heaped praise on his side’s display after the match and was particularly pleased with a perfect first-half performance.

CONCLUSION
Stoke are unbeaten in their last eight matches against Reading in all competitions (W2 D6) since 2006. However, the last two league meetings between Stoke and Reading at the bet365 Stadium have both ended without goals.
Overall, Swansea edges Reading by a single win – Stokes 6 to Reading’s 5 – in their last 20 head-to-heads, while 60% of those games ended in draws (9). Stoke are desperate for the three points here to snap their nine-game barren run and a five-game winless streak at home. Reading are in a much better moment, but they do have a poor recent record on the road (W1, D2, L2).

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
