Stoke host Rotherham at Bet365 Stadium (Stoke on Trent) in the 9th round of the Championship on Saturday, October 31 and the match kicks off at 3pm (UK).
MATCH PREVIEW
Stoke head into this match sitting in the 12th place with 10 points after suffering only their second defeat of the season against Swansea in Wales (2-0). That loss ended their unbeaten run of five games (W3-D2), after they started the season with a goalless draw against Millwall in their season opener and a defeat (0-2) to Bristol next.
As for Rotherham, after eight rounds in the league they are in 17th place in the table with 9 points (W2-D3-L3). Their win against Sheffield Wed (3-0) in midweek ended their barren run without a win in six consecutive games and having in mind that the Millers have picked up more points on the road this season (5pts) they will hope to get something from their visit to stoke on Saturday.
MATCH ANALYSIS
Michael O'Neill will remain upbeat after losing just two of his first eight league games this season. Another reason to be optimistic is the fact that the Potters have scored two or more goals in their last four fixtures, after O’Neill had been the first to acknowledge that his players must improve in the final third after failing to score more than once in any of their first six matches in all competitions.
However, against Swansey on Tuesday, the hosts were on top from the first whistle and left too little room for Stoke to get anything from the match. They started the evening in 6th and 8th place respectively - each on 12 points from seven games - but they looked poles apart throughout this match. After a defensive nightmare they had in that match, the experienced manager will hope for nothing less than three points against Rotherham on Saturday.
Rotherham, on the other hand, accept that relegation battle is on their hands this season, but the manager Paul Warne knows how to get the most out of his group of players. Unlike other, richer clubs, Rotherham haven't had a big budget in comparison to other championship sides in the first place, and the lack of expectation for this season may play into their hands. The Millers should be satisfied with their form at the start of the season, but the manner in which they were held to draws in some games leaves much more to be desired.
However, there were not any signs of those frailties against Sheffield Wed in midweek as the Millers cruised to a derby win over 10-man Owls in a game that was briefly halted by an unauthorized drone flying over the stadium. The game totally went the Rotherham way once Lees was sent off and the match was practically over at that point. Rotherham had been without a win since the opening day but victory over Wednesday moved them up to 17th in the table.

These two sides have only met twice so far in the league, and interestingly both of those games ended in 2-2 draws last season. The only other time they met was in 2008 when Stoke won (2-0) in an EFL Cup tie.
Stoke turned in a disappointing performance on Tuesday night as they were outshot 18-3 by Swansea on their way to a 2-0 defeat in south Wales.
The Potters have won just once at home in the league this season and are yet to keep a clean sheet at the Bet365 Stadium in four games.
3-0 win over the 10-man Owls, courtesy of a brace from Jamie Lindsay and Dan Barlaser's penalty, was Rotherham's biggest win in the Championship in four and a half years.
Rotherham have only two wins in their last 52 away games in the second tier.
My prediction for this match is: Stoke win
