Stoke host Watford at the Bet365 Stadium (Stoke on Trent) in the 26th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Friday, January 22.
STOKE VS WATFORD MATCH ANALYSIS
The hosts come into this match looking to end a seven-game run without a win (D4, L3) in all competitions. They sit one place below the play-off berth in 7th and after a 1-1 draw at Blackburn and a 3-3 draw at Rotherham, they will be looking to finally get those elusive three points at home against the Hornets. As for Watford, with two home wins on the trot – 2-0 against Huddersfield and 1-0 against Barnsley – they have caught up with the top teams and are 6 points from the second-placed Swansea and automatic promotion. They haven’t won an away game since December 12 at Birmingham and could do with a win here to keep them in contention for the play-offs.
Despite missing important players, Michael O'Neill's side have enjoyed some good performances, and the Potters are in a good place after being defeated only once in their last eight Championship matches (W1, D6). The Potters are just three points off the playoff places, but Michael O'Neill might rue a missed opportunity to get there after not being able to turn some of their most recent draws into wins.
They are on a seven-game winless run that includes a loss to Tottenham in the League Cup (1-3), plus a 0-4 FA Cup Round 3 exit against Leicester. One positive for Stoke is the return of Ryan Shawcross to their starting XI. The Potters captain, who was capped by England in 2012, has spent much of the past 18 months recovering injuries. The Potters have also signed Wales international winger Rabbi Matondo from Schalke 04 on loan in hope of adding more goals and assists.
The Hornets, on the other hand, are definitely looking to get back to top-flight immediately and are hoping that a change of managers will galvanize the squad as Vladimir Ivic was sacked after his side’s 2-0 defeat at mid-table Huddersfield in December, just four months into his reign. Since Valérien Ismaël took charge, their record across all competitions is ‘W12, L7’ under the Frenchman. Without a single draw since then, it has been all or nothing for the Yorkshire side.
On the back of a good performance at Manchester United in the FA Cup, Watford recorded two consecutive wins in the Championship to give themselves a three-point cushion over the seventh position and their Friday’s opponents, Stoke. The Hornets held for the three points against Barnsley in midweek, but getting over the line will be all that matters, keeping the club within reach of automatic promotion with a game in hand.

After failing to win a game in any competition for more than a month, five fixtures without a win in the league have left the Potters at the risk of being pulled into mid-table. Stoke are close to entering a must-win territory if they want to stay in contention for the top six.
Watford have only scored five away Championship goals this season, fewer than any other club in the league, but confidence is high in the Hornets ranks. Even though, they would prefer to be winning games far more comfortably, the change in mood since the Spaniard's arrival is obvious and crucial to Watford's promotion chances.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
