VfB Stuttgart top scorer Sasa Kaljdzic will be out to end a three-game drought when his side faces an Augsburg side bidding to pull clear of the relegation zone in the Matchday 32 opener on Friday. Read our reasons for Stuttgart vs Augsburg prediction and betting tips.
Defeat to RB Leipzig last time out put an end to Stuttgart's hopes of a top-six finish, with Pellegrino Matarazzo's men dropping to 10th off a four-game losing streak. They've not quite been the same since Silas Wamangituka's season came to an end in the Matchday 26 defeat to Bayern Munich, with further injuries to Lilian Egloff, Nicolas Gonzalez, and Orel Mangala not helping their cause, either. Naouirou Ahamada's red card against Leipzig results in the 19-year-old misses out against Augsburg, meaning Wataru Endo needs a new partner in central midfield. In attack, 14-goal top scorer Kalajdzic will continue to lead the VfB attack as they look to reignite their campaign over the final weeks of the season. Stuttgart has lost just three of 12 Bundesliga matches in which Kalajdzic has scored, but won only five of 18 when he has not. Stuttgart suffered the heaviest defeat in their Bundesliga history at the hands of Augsburg in April 2019 (6-0).
Stuttgart: Kobel - Mavropanos, Anton, Kempf - Massimo, Endo, Castro (c), Coulibaly - Förster, Klimowicz - Kalajdzic
Out: Ahamada (suspended), Mangala (thigh), Silas (knee)
Doubtful: Egloff (not included), Gonzalez (not included), Kaminski (not included), Sosa (ankle)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo
Augsburg has been in a similar free-fall recently and is just one point better off than their hosts from their previous four league outings (D1, L3). That recent run of poor form - including defeats to strugglers Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke, and, most recently, Koln - led to the club re-appointing former head coach Markus Weinzierl in place of Heiko Herrlich. They are not out of the woods when it comes to the relegation battle, sitting just four points clear of Cologne in the play-off place for the drop after losing 3-2 to the Billy Goats. Having trailed 3-0 at halftime, goals from Robert Gummy and Ruben Vargas ended their side's three-match wait for a goal to give Augsburg late hope but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat - or save Herrlich's job. The absence of Felix Uduokhai in defense for the remainder of the season with an ankle tendon injury makes Weinzierl's task no easier. Weinzierl’s best win ratio to date fell during his first stint as Augsburg coach (36.26 percent); his worst came in 23 matches at the Stuttgart helm (17.39 percent).
Augsburg: Gikiewicz - Framberger, Oxford, Gouweleeuw (c), Iago - Strobl, Gruezo - Hahn, Richter, Caligiuri - Niederlechner
Out: Uduokhai (ankle)
Doubtful: Khedira (match fitness)
Coach: Markus Weinzierl

Augsburg has lost their last four away games in a row, failing to score in their most recent three. Five and four respectively would equal and set a new club record. BettingKick’s Stuttgart vs Augsburg prediction is: Home team win.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
