VfB Stuttgart will have a tough task to get a result against title candidates, RB Leipzig, on Saturday.
Best Stuttgart player Nico Gonzalez will hope his injury troubles are behind him after a stop-start return to the Bundesliga. The Argentina international has missed five of 13 league games so far this season, though that hasn't stopped him scoring four and assisting one in the eight he's featured in for surprise package Stuttgart. Gonzalez is second to seven-strike Silas Wamangituka for goals, with VfB flying high in seventh place after bouncing back to the top flight as 2019/20 Bundesliga 2 runners-up.
Pellegrino Matarazzo's enterprising side are among the division's highest scorers not named Bayern Munich and had found the net at least once in all 12 of their league assignments prior to the Matchday 13 defeat to fourth-placed Wolfsburg. Veteran midfielder Gonzalo Castro started the 1-0 win over regional rivals Freiburg in the DFB Cup second round, and he could continue in place of Daniel Didavi, who has a knock. Match-winner Sasa Kalajdzic may have to settle for a place on the bench, however.
Three defeats after 13 games mark VfB’s most successful start to a campaign since winning the league in 2006/07. They are, however, winless in their first six home matches of a top-flight season for the first time (D4, L2).
Stuttgart: Kobel - Stenzel, Anton, Kempf - Silas, Endo, Mangala, Sosa - Castro (c), Coulibaly - Gonzalez
Out: Al Ghaddioui (pelvis), Thommy (elbow)
Doubtful: Didavi (knock), Karazor (knee), Mavropanos (knock)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo
Leipzig is well-equipped to deal with Kalajdzic, the Bundesliga's tallest player. Thanks in no small part to a shape-shifting defense marshaled by France international Upamecano, Die Roten Bullen have conceded a league-low nine goals in 13 league matches so far. They'll begin the year in second place, only two points behind leaders Bayern. The goalless draw with lowly Cologne ended their 100 percent home record in 2020/21, but Julian Nagelsmann's men served up an emphatic response in the DFB Cup by beating Augsburg 3-0 away.
Yussuf Poulsen scored Leipzig's second from the bench and should start in Stuttgart, with Emil Forsberg a candidate to make way. Roma-owned Justin Kluivert could return to the starting line-up after missing the last two with a calf complaint, but transfer regulations mean new signing Dominik Szoboszlai will have to wait a week longer to make his Bundesliga debut.
Leipzig: Gulacsi - Orban, Upamecano, Halstenberg - Mukiele, Sabitzer (c), Kampl, Angelino - Olmo, Kluivert - Poulsen
Out: Henrichs (knee), Hwang (not included), Klostermann (knee), Konate (ankle), Laimer (knee), Szoboszlai (ineligible)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Julian Nagelsmann

Leipzig has never lost to a promoted Bundesliga team (W14, D3) and they can continue that streak in the next match. Away win is our preferable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
