After a loss at home vs Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart found the first win of the new season at Mainz when Wamangituka, Didavi, Klimowicz, and Sasa Kalajdzic all scored in a 4-1 victory. The next task should be the hardest when Leverkusen comes to Mercedes-Benz-Arena on Saturday.
Stuttgart started well against Mainz and goalkeeper Robin Zentner denied both Orel Mangala and Wataru Endo inside the first five minutes before completely against the run of play Jean-Philippe Mateta nodded a cross for Quaison who opened his 2020/21 account with a header. Silas Wamangituka should be very dangerous in this season if he continues to threaten like in two first matches because he drove Gonzalo Castro's assist past Zentner to level with the last kick before the break.
Stuttgart had more goal attempts than any other apart from Bayern Munich on Matchday 1 and the Austrian forward Kajadžić justified his coach's choice to start when assisted to Didavi and the veteran had an easy job to put Stuttgart ahead. Kalajdzic's assist for Didavi was his first in the German top flight. Substitute Klimowicz and Kalajdzic had both found the net until the end just to leave Achim Beierlorzer without a job after this match. Wamangituka and Kalajdzic both have two goals from their first two Bundesliga games. This was Stuttgart's first league win in Mainz since 17 September 2005, ending the hosts 10-game unbeaten streak at home to them.
Stuttgart: Kobel – Anton, Kaminski, Kempf – Endo – Wamangituka, Mangala, Castro (c), Sosa – Kalajdzic, Didavi
Doubtful: Förster (match fitness), Mavropanos (match fitness), Thommy (match fitness)
Out: Awoudja (Achilles tendon), Egloff (ankle), Gonzalez (thigh), Mola (hip), Stenzel (suspended)
After a goalless draw against Wolfsburg Leverkusen needed better performance to regain confidence at the start of the season. They did it against semifinalists of the UEFA Champions League, Leipzig who should feel like they stole a point last weekend. Dayot Upamecano had to be alert early on to stop former teammate Patrik Schick scoring at the near post. Schick made his starting debut for Leverkusen here – against Leipzig of all teams. The Czech Republic international scored 10 Bundesliga goals on loan at Nagelsmann’s side in 2019/20. Minutes later Emile Forsberg shot got past Lukas Hradecky. The hosts reacted well and equalized shortly afterward through Demirbay, whose long-range effort left Peter Gulacsi with no chance. Leverkusen was the better side after that, with Moussa Diaby, Lars Bender, Karim Bellarabi, and Schick all having sights of goal. Florian Wirtz had the clearest chance of the half but he could only hit the post from Bellarabi’s cross. Both sides had glimpses of goal to win it as the final whistle approached, the best one falling to Angelino, but the Leipzig left-back could only drag his shot wide of the far post.
Leverkusen: Hradecky – L. Bender, S. Bender, Tapsoba, Sinkgraven – Wirtz, Aranguiz (c), Demirbay – Bellarabi, Schick, Diaby
Doubtful: Alario (knock)
Out: Paulinho (knee)
Coach: Peter Bosz

It could be a very entertaining match with a lot of goals as Stuttgart are still finding it hard to protect their goalkeeper. Leverkusen is on the rise and away win with over 2,5 goals is expected.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
